PROJECT TITLE

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE DAY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A one-day, intensive camp focusing on Mechanical Engineering, offering the opportunity to meet mechanical engineering students, professionals, and professors and learn of the opportunities available within the Mechanical Engineering field.

PROJECT GOALS

•   Motivate students to pursue engineering degrees. •   Promote male and female Hispanic students to pursue engineering fields. •   Educate students in the opportunities the engineering field has to offer.

EVALUATION

The project’s success was measured through student engagement and feedback from the participants. Academic counselors from different schools in Puerto Rico have asked us to repeat this event in the future because they found it very informational.

The Mechanical Engineering Experience Day consisted of the following events:

•   What is Mechanical Engineering? Conference

o   Dr. Ivan Baiges

•   What is Biomedical Engineering? Conference

o   Dr. Ruben Diaz

•   Opportunities within Mechanical Engineering: COOPs, Internships and Research

o   Students: Christopher Ayala, Inty Garcia and Ilka Rodriguez

•   UPRM Special Projects Expo

o   ASME Human Powered Vehicle

o   SAE Solar Car, Formula and Baja

o   College Robotics Projects

•   Egg Drop Challenge
