These acƟviƟes will see our school community looking excitedly to the future in a number of ways. Three separate teams of AVC staff members will travel to New York, San Francisco, and across Colorado to visit and learn from a wide range of InnovaƟve alternaƟve schools. We are proud of the program we have created at Aspen Valley, but we are always looking for ways to improve. Our teams will be touring and speaking with some of the most creaƟve alternaƟve schools in the country to gather best pracƟces and new ideas in preparaƟon for upcoming site planning acƟviƟes which will result in a five year strategic plan to guide our growth over the coming years. In December, a group of students, staff members, and parents will join Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Jim Smith and myself for two days of discussion and planning as we update our Site Plan with new ideas which will be developed into acƟonable objecƟves and tacƟcs. We will look at how well we are doing at achieving our goals and make plans to meet the needs of our community over the next few years. This process is important for a number of reasons. First, Aspen Valley is a much different community than it was five years ago. Since our last Site Plan was developed, we have welcomed new staff members onto the team; these staff members have brought new leadership and new ideas to our community. We have also welcomed many new students including ever‐increasing numbers coming from our middle school. These changes have made it appropriate to invite members of our community to parƟcipate in, and take ownership of, the development of our goals for the future. Second, the Aspen Valley community has done a marvelous job of working to achieve the goals it developed for its Site Plan five years ago. The vast majority of these goals have been, or are being, reached, making it appropriate to assess their impact on our school to ensure that they conƟnue to be meaningful to our future. Finally, we are compelled to conƟnue to seek ways to balance the needs of our students with the demands of the world in which we live. Periodic updates ensure that our Site Plan is kept in the future tense and that we remain aware of and responsive to the changing needs of our community. I will update you on this exciƟng process in next month’s newsleƩer.

Planning for the Future

N ovember  and  December  are  busy  months  at  AVC  with  many  different

ac vi es.  These ac vi es will see our school community looking excitedly to the future

in a number of ways.

Three  separate  teams  of  AVC  staff  members  will  travel  to  New  York,  San

Francisco,  and  across  Colorado  to  visit  and  learn  from  a  wide  range  of    Innova ve

alterna ve schools.  We are proud of the program we have created at Aspen Valley, but

we are always  looking  for ways  to  improve.   Our  teams will  be  touring and  speaking

with  some  of  the  most  crea ve  alterna ve  schools  in  the  country  to  gather  best

prac ces and new ideas in prepara on for upcoming site planning ac vi es which will

result in a five year strategic plan to guide our growth over the coming years.

In December, a group of students, staff members, and parents will join Deputy

Superintendent, Dr. Jim Smith and myself for two days of discussion and planning as we

update our Site Plan with new ideas which will be developed into ac onable objec ves

and  tac cs.   We will  look at how well we are doing at achieving our goals and make

plans  to meet  the needs of our  community over  the next  few years.    This process  is

important for a number of reasons.  First, Aspen Valley is a much different community

than it was five years ago.  Since our last Site Plan was developed, we have welcomed

new staff members onto the team; these staff members have brought new leadership

and  new  ideas  to  our  community.    We  have  also  welcomed  many  new  students

including  ever‐increasing  numbers  coming  from  our  middle  school.    These  changes

have made  it appropriate  to  invite members of our community  to par cipate  in, and

take ownership of, the development of our goals for the future.

Second, the Aspen Valley community has done a marvelous job of working to

achieve  the  goals  it  developed  for  its  Site  Plan  five  years  ago.    The  vast majority  of

these  goals  have  been,  or  are  being,  reached,  making  it  appropriate  to  assess  their

impact on our school to ensure that they con nue to be meaningful to our future.

Finally, we are compelled to con nue to seek ways to balance the needs of our

students with the demands of the world in which we live.  Periodic updates ensure that

our Site Plan is kept in the future tense and that we remain aware of and responsive to

the changing needs of our community.  I will update you on this exci ng process in next

month’s newsle er.

There’s a little house at AVHS... Tucked away on the counter between the student microwaves is our cardboard Ronald McDonald House, a collection point for donated pull tabs. It seems pull tabs are everywhere anymore. Please, join us in saving and donating them to Ronald McDonald House to help house the needy families of hospitalized children. What is the Ronald McDonald House? The Ronald McDonald House of Southern Colorado opened its doors in 1987. For 27 years, the Ronald McDonald House of Southern Colorado has been providing families with a home-away-from-home while they have a child in the hospital.

Why Pop Tabs? That litt le insignificant tab you pull to open your can of pop can make a significant impact — made of a more pure, high-grade aluminum. Don’t forget about the tabs from soup cans, broth cans, pet food cans, and even tennis/racquetball balls!

What does the Ronald McDonald House get for Pop Tabs? The dollars raised through this program are used for operations and supplies for the Ronald McDonald House and Family Rooms.

Facts: 1 pound = 1, 267 tabs. 1 pound = approximately $.25 - $.30.

Approximate annual amount received: $3,000.

Please save and bring in your Pull Tabs!

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS! Every year, AVHS yearbook devotes a

special section to our seniors. We need 5 baby photos of your senior ASAP, please.

Also, a reminder: Senior photos are due no later than December 16th, 2016 -
