This Introduction Guide will assist you in working with ASRA netfor the first time.

Regardless of whether you are an ASRA net beginner or areswitching from ASRA to ASRA net, this guide is designed tohelp you through the first few steps.

The chapter "Getting started with ASRA net" guides you step bystep through the basic functions of ASRA net using a realisticexample.The step-by-step instructions are marked with , , etc.

In the chapters that follow this, you can familiarize yourself with-further ASRA net functions. This information is marked with , , etc.

If you have further questions that are not covered in thisIntroduction Guide, ASRA net also contains extensive onlineHelp notes.

ASRA net makes the entire work order processthat much easier

ASRA net represents the latest advance in the development ofthe ASRA system. All functions available in ASRA have been fullyintegrated into ASRA net.

ASRA net is an electronic work unit/flat rate catalog that allowsusers to quickly and reliably do research on operation items,working times and damage codes. ASRA net also containsadditional operations, included work texts and notes as well asgraphic displays of vehicle parts.

The information obtained using ASRA net forms the basis forcreating cost estimates, orders, invoices and warranty claims.The open output interface allows ASRA data to be integratedinto your dealer system.

ASRA functionality is activated using your license code.WIS/ASRA net distinguishes between the following types oflicenses:

Welcome to ASRA net

ASRA net has a Windows-based interface, which provides foroptimal handling and navigation.

ASRA net is clearly arranged in individual panels.

Functions can be activated by clicking on icons and buttons.

ASRA net’s user interface

Tooltips are provided to explain icon functions. When youposition your mouse pointer on an icon, a tooltip providing abrief description of the function appears.

The SHIFT and CTRL buttons can be used to make multipleselections in selection lists.

If you have further questions that are not covered in thisIntroduction Guide, ASRA net also contains extensive onlineHelp notes.

The online Help notes can be opened from any panel by clickingon the icon.

Familiarize yourself with the basic functions of ASRA net byworking through the example.

Task: You are looking for operation items for the complaintcoolant loss, requiring radiator replacement.

The first thing you need to do is determine the vehicle data.

You can carry out ASRA vehicle identification in the "Infobox 1"or "ASRA Vehicle identification" panels.

Determine vehicle data

Click on the "ASRA" panel.

Click on the "ASRA Vehicle identification" panel.

Using the pull-down menu, select World Manufacturer Code WDB for Germany.

Enter the vehicle identification number 2037071A633832 or the model designation 203707 in the input field and confirmby pressing RETURN .

The vehicle data is now set.�

Getting started with ASRA net

The next thing you need to do is determine groups. This can bedone using the tree structure or an ASRA picture. Both methodsare described below.

Determine groups

Method 1: Determine groups using the tree structure

Go to group 20 using the scroll bar.

Click on the icon.

Select group number 1010 Cooling and heating system.

Click the icon.

The group number is entered in the "Selected groups" selection list.

Method 2: Determine groups using an ASRA picture

Select the picture title of the ASRA picture in the tree structure.

Select group number 3865 Radiator in the ASRA picture.

The group number is entered in the "Selected groups" selection list.

Click on the "Operation items" panel.

Now you can display the included work texts and additionaloperations in the "Operation items" panel and then select theoperation items to be carried out.

Click on to display the included work text. Close the includedwork text by clicking on the button.

Click on to display the additional operations.

Click on the icon to display the datacard.If necessary, take into account information from the datacardwhen determining additional operations.

The datacard can only be shown if there is a link to EPC net andthe vehicle data has been established using a vehicle identifica-tion number.

Select the three operation items (as displayed in the screenshot)by activating the option buttons .

The selected operation items are entered in the "Operationitems list."

Click on the "Operation items list" panel.

The selected operation items are displayed in the "Operationitems list" panel and the working times are totaled .

The operation items list can be modified as required, e.g. ZM (time prescribed by foreperson) items can be overwrittenand operation items can be supplemented by a damage code.

Overwrite ZM items

Double click on the "ZM" input field and delete the letters "ZM"using the backspace key . Enter the corresponding work units(e.g. 3) or hours (e.g. 0.2) and confirm the entry by pressingRETURN .

The new working times are calculated and then displayed asunderlined text.

The "Total" information field shows the working hours calculatedfor the workshop order.

You can click on the icon to add a damage code to theselected operation item.

This step is described in detail in chapter 8.

You can select an operation item and click on the icon tosearch for literature on the selected operation number. If docu-ments pertaining to the operation number are available, they willbe displayed in the "Documents" panel.

A literature search can only be performed if you have aWIS/ASRA license.

You can click on the icon to print out the operation itemslist.

You can click on the icon to save the operation items list.

This step is described in detail in chapter 4.

Operation items lists can be saved for further processing. Thesaved file contains the vehicle data and the operation items listincluding all operation items.

The "Save operation items list" window is automaticallydisplayed if you have entered at least one operation item inthe operation items list and carry out the following actions:

• Change the vehicle data in the "ASRA Vehicle identification"panel.

• Click on the icon in the "Operation items list" panel.

• Open a previously saved operation items list in the "ASRAVehicle identification" panel by clicking on the icon.

• Exit WIS/ASRA net.

Saving an operation items list

Assign a file name. You have the following options:

• Use the default file name (e.g. joborder) or enter a new namein the "File name" input field.

Or

• Select a previously used file name; this operation items listwill then be overwritten.

You can enter a different file type as a file extension (txt, utf,ucs) if needed.

The directory path and the file extension (e.g. .txt) are preset inthe "ASRA Setup" window.

Click on the button.

The operation items list will be saved.�

In the "ASRA Vehicle identification" panel, vehicle data andgroups are entered for use in finding operation items.

A vehicle identification number or a model designationcan be entered in this input field to identify the vehicle.

You also can select or enter the vehicle model, family andmodel code from the pull-down menus.

Click the pull-down menu to open the "history." Here you canfind a list of the last vehicle data entered in ASRA net, WIS netand EPC net.

If you have an interface to EPC net on your computer, you canaccess the datacard by clicking on the icon after entering avehicle identification number.

Saved operation items lists can be opened using the icon.

The icon deletes all entries and selectionsin the "ASRA Vehicle identification" panel.

The icon can be used to enter any desired customer requestsas free text; these requests are entered directly in the operationitems list.

Clicking on the button displays the keyworddirectory.

Here, you can enter a keyword and confirm by pressingRETURN . The keyword directory offers a search mechanismthat associates technical terms with particular groups.

Enter a 6-digit operation number in the inputfield and confirm by pressing RETURN to enter this numberdirectly into the operation items list.

The icon takes the picture out of the panel and displays it in aseparate window. The separate window can be closed byclicking on the icon.

ASRA net uses design groups!

Only the selected groups are used to determine the operation items.

The icon is used to transfer the chosen groups to the"Selected groups" selection list.

The icon is used to remove the chosen groups from the"Selected groups" selection list.

The icon is used to clear all groups from the "Selectedgroups" selection list.

Click on the "Group notes" icon to view special technicalinformation for a group, e.g. what operations are included in theselected group.

Clicking on the picture title icon displays the "ASRA picture."

Each "ASRA picture" is uniquely assigned to a vehicle familyand a design group. An "ASRA picture" contains sketches orschematic representations of vehicle components and sensitivefields.

Clicking on the sensitive fields in the "ASRA picture" transfersthe associated entries to the "Selected groups" selection list.

The operation items to be carried out are selected in the"Operation items" panel, at which point they are added to the"Operation items list." In the process, due attention must bepaid to the included work texts and notes.

In the selection list, a distinction is made between stand-aloneoperations (bold), linked operations (normal) and additionaloperations (italics).

Activate the option buttons to transfer the operation items to the "Operation items list."

The time prescribed for an operation item is displayed in thiscolumn.

WU Work unit (1 WU = 5 minutes)

Hrs. Decimal hours (0.1 hours = 6 minutes)

ZM Time prescribed by forepersonFor operation items that are designated with ZM, a timecan be prescribed by a foreperson. The ZM item is over-written in the "Operation items list" panel.

The icon can be used to enter any desired customerrequests as free text; these requests are entered directly in theoperation items list.

The icon is a toggle switch used to select or deselect alloperation items.

Enter a 6-digit operation number in the entry fieldand confirm by pressing RETURN to enter this number directlyin the operation items list.

Additional operation: Click on the icon to show/hide the additional operations for an operation item.

Included work: Click on included work to get information about the subopera-tions for an operation item.

Note: Click on Note to get special tech-nical information for an operation item.

The icon is used to clear the selected operation items fromthe operation items list.

The icon is a toggle switch that is used to select ordeselect all operation items.

The icon is used to print out the operation items list.

The input field allows youto enter an order number. This order number is shown on theprintout of the operation items list.

Operation items can be expanded to include a damage code inthe case of warranty and goodwill work.

A damage code can only be added in the "Operation items list"panel.

Task:Determine the damage code: Radiator leaky.

Select the operation item "Radiator Replace" in the "Operation items list" panel.

Click the icon.

The "ASRA damage code" window appears.

Determining a damage code in ASRA

Possible damage code pictures for theselected operation item are automati-cally searched for.

Use the scroll bar to move to the pic-ture Radiator, coolant hoses.

Select the picture Radiator, coolanthoses.

The damage code picture is displayed.� 8

Click on damaged part "Radiator"either in the selection list or in thepicture.

Click on damage type "leaking."

Click on damage ID "Original equipment."

Click on repair type "Repair using material."

The damage code is determined.

Click on the button.

The "ASRA damage code" window willnow close and the damage code willbe entered in the operation items list.

The icon allows you to copy thedamage code to the Windows clip-board and then paste it into otherprograms.

Use the "ASRA preface" function to get information on thechanges and new features found in the current ASRA version.

You can open the "ASRA preface" by going to "Help/ASRApreface" in the menu bar.

The "Setup" function allows you to change the basic settings foryour user ID.

The following must be noted when making changes inSetup:• There must be no data active in the "ASRA" panel prior to

making any changes.

• The changes must be confirmed by clicking .

Open Setup windowOpen Setup by going to "Options/Setup" in the menu bar or bypressing F2.

"Language selection" panel Selecting a dialog language configures the language for the userinterface and the data content in ASRA.

The priority settings 1–3 do not apply to ASRA net.

Every publication contains different languages, and these aremarked by a country ID.

The documents that are shown depend on your license and yourmarket.

"ASRA Setup" panelThe information field shows the directory path where thesaved operation items lists are stored locally.

The directory path cannot be changed.

This default setting defines a default file namethat can be used to save the operation items list, for example: joborder.txt.

The following file extensions are permissible: txt, utf, ucs

You may also use customized file names when saving anoperation items list.

Use the pull-down menu to select your basic setting, Germanyor Foreign. Different formulas will be used to calculate the time,depending on the selected setting.

All workshops that are in Germany and in Austria must use "WU" as the time mode and "Germany" as the region. Allworkshops outside of Germany (except Austria) must use "Hours" as the time mode and "Foreign" as the region, so that the flat rates are correctly calculated and displayed.

The information field shows the ASRA data status.Example: 0505 = month 05, year 2005

ZM Time prescribed by foreperson

For operation items that are designated with ZM, a time can beprescribed by a foreperson.

You are authorized to overwrite the ZM item in the "Operation items list" screen using a work unit (WU)and/or decimal hour unit (Hrs.).

You are not authorized to overwrite the ZM item in the "Operation items list" screen.

The option button shows the time mode in WU or hours,depending on the selected region.

WU Work unit (1 WU = 5 minutes)

Hours Decimal hours (0.1 hours = 6 minutes)

ASRA net comes with a modern online Help system that canassist you with any question you may have on using ASRA net. Whether you want to know about the function of an icon or theconcept and purpose of a panel, or if you require step-by-stepinstructions, all the information you need is there.

You can open the online Help notes as follows:

Help iconThe icon can be found in all ASRA net panels. Clicking on itopens the Help section at the point required for the currentpanel. You can navigate to additional Help topics via links or thenavigation bar.

Menu barWhen opening the Help notes from the menu bar or bypressing F1, a general Help starting page will appear.Here, you can choose between the various Help topics. You can navigate to additional Help topics via links or thenavigation bar.

IconsMost of the icons in the online Help are mouse-sensitive and canbe clicked to take the user to further information. The mousepointer changes to a hand when hovering over sensitiveicons, which can then be clicked to access detailed information.

Links in running textLinks in running text are printed in red type.Clicking on a link takes the user to a page containing moredetailed information.

Reference linksReference links are identified with a red arrow and red type.Clicking on the arrow or the red text takes the user to moredetailed information.

Links in overview graphicsMost of the overview graphics in the Help notes are mouse-sensitive. The mouse pointer changes to a hand whenhovering over sensitive areas, which can then be clicked toaccess detailed information.

Navigation barAll Help topics are also included as entries in the navigationbar.

When you open the online Help notes or ASRA net for the firsttime, it is advisable to read the Help topic "Information for newand experienced users."

To search for a search term within the online Help notes, go tothe "Start search" panel.

Have you discovered an error or do you have a suggestion forimproving the software? No problem, you can send a feedbackmessage to the responsible office in just a few quick and simplesteps.

Every panel in ASRA net contains the icon. Clicking this iconopens a feedback message screen, to which you can add adetailed description as required.

Depending on your server settings, the feedback message canbe sent by either e-mail or fax to the responsible contactperson.

Task:Create a feedback message for an erroneous operationitem.

Click the relevant operation item in the "Operation items list"panel in ASRA net.

Click the icon.

The "DaimlerChrysler Feedback" window will open.

Fields marked in red are mandatory fieldsand must be filled in.A name should also be placed in the"Contact person" input field in case questions arise.

Select the priority using the pull-downmenu.

Click on the button.

The selected vehicle data, the group and theoperation number are automatically enteredin the feedback message. You can addfurther information as required.

Identify the error by clicking the option button .

Multiple selection is possible.

Enter a detailed error description as required.

For fax messages only:Enter the fax number of the responsiblecontact person.

Click on the button.

For fax messages only:A fax form will be generated, which youthen fax to your responsible contact person.

For e-mail messages only:The feedback message will be sent by e-mail to the responsible office.
