Content Overview: Letting Love in, is all about listening to the voice that says, “you’re one in a million, you have value, dignity and purpose.” This assembly focusses on the true and false voices that we can hear in our heads. It helps children tune into the voice of love and recognize the false voice that they need to ignore. Instead of trash, they are treasure, instead of being pointless they have purpose and instead of only having one chance they always have a second chance to thrive. SLIDE 1) Say, “HeartSmart is about being smart with our heart. What’s in our heart affects every area of our life. Today we’re going to look at the first value of the HeartSmart High Five. Everything in HeartSmart comes from this.” SLIDE 2) Read the slide, “Don’t Forget to Let Love in!” and highlight Boris’ new position. Ask the children what they think it means. Explain that it’s all about loving ourselves. Sometimes loving ourselves can be hard to do. Knowing that someone loves us helps us to love ourselves. SLIDE 3) Ask the children to say the word on the slide. Washikanto - It means ‘one’ in the rarest language in the world Ashintu, which is spoken by only one person in the world, in Peru. Ask the children who they think this person talks to? Paddington Bear? Use this to highlight the fact that we all have an internal dialogue, we all talk to ourselves in some way. Do we talk to ourself in a way that is kind or unkind? ‘Don’t Forget to Let Love in!’ is all about listening to the right voice and developing a kind internal dialogue. SLIDE 4 - 17) Use these slides to play a sound effect game, Each sound effect belongs to a different animal. Ask the children to guess which animal each sound belongs to and use the following slide to reveal the answer. Explain that we all have the ability to recognize different sounds, different voices and to give them a name. We need to do the same with our internal voices. We need to recognize which voice is true and loving and which voice is false and unkind. SLIDE 18) Say, “Boris is just like us, he has different voices in his head. He has an untrue voice that says he’s garbage and should be thrown away, (he was made from bits and bobs of garbage and because of that he sometimes thinks that he is garbage. Often times, the lie is close to the truth but it is still actually a lie). The other voice is the voice of Amber and Josh, who see great value in him.”

Everything in HeartSmart comes from this.”

SLIDE 2) Read the slide, “Don’t Forget to Let Love in!” and highlight Boris’ new position.

Assembly 4 - Don’t

Don’t Forget to Let Love in!

SLIDES 19 - 24) Go through the three big lies that make Boris the Robot feel sad - you’ll need to explain what each word means. Explain that the lies makes him feel sad and each truth makes him feel happy.

SLIDE 19 & 20) Lie #1 - Trash - All of Boris’ parts are made of things found in the bin. Sometimes he listens to the lie that says he should be in the bin.Truth #1 - Treasure - He is so valuable and important to Amber, Josh, Dad and many other children too.

SLIDE 21 & 22) Lie #2 - Pointless - As all of Boris’s parts were originally made for something else he sometimes listens to the lie that says he’s useless, that he’s not doing anything worthwhile. Truth #2 - Purpose - Boris helps many children know what it means to be HeartSmart. He’s doing something that no other robot can do.

SLIDE 23 & 24) Lie #3 - One Chance - Boris is big and heavy and can be a little clumsy. Sometimes he leaks oil or knocks things over. As a result he sometimes listens to the lie that says he only gets one chance. If he makes a mistake, he’s blown it. Truth #3 Second Chance - Boris always gets a second chance. He is more important than any mistake he might make.

Summarize by saying, “When Boris recognizes the voice of Amber, Josh and Dad who made him, he remembers that he is treasure, he has purpose and that he gets a second chance. This is what ‘Don’t Forget to Let Love in!’ means for Boris.”

Scroll through the slides again and highlight the similarity between Boris and us. You could have a child (or 3) stand up to illustrate each point or just as a recap. You could say that every human who’s ever walked on earth has had to learn which voice to listen to.

#1 - Trash/Treasure - We may not have heard someone say to us we’re treasure, that we’re loved, that we’re one in a million before. We can think that we’re trash, but that’s not true, we’re all valuable, priceless, one in a million. We’re all treasure.

#2 - Pointless/Purpose - We may look at other children and think about how good they are at things, how they’re better at class work, sports, making friends, or maybe even better looking. We can think that there’s no point to living, but that’s not true. We all have an incredible purpose to discover. There’s only one of us and there’s something that only we can do, something only we can bring to our family, our class and the world.

…#3 - One Chance/Second Chance - we may make a mistake, especially if we’re trying something new and if we’re not careful we might believe the lie that says, “we are a mistake.” It’s not true, we all get a second chance, an opportunity to try again, to get up, to work at it and enjoy our life.

SLIDE 25) Finish with a 2 minute reflection. Ask the children to take a moment to recognize any lies that they might have listened to, (it’s probably something that’s making them feel sad). Ask them to imagine themselves putting that lie in the bin and take a moment to listen to the true voice of love. The voice that says they are a treasure, they have purpose and they can give themselves a second chance.

SLIDE 26) Holding slide.
