TASK 1: Choosing the best method and writing complex documents

Instructions:1. Choose one organising issue or campaign that you are working on in your target

worksite. Eg Issue – a group of workers report a sudden increase or change in work duties Eg Campaign – your union is running a health and safety campaign on bullying in

the workplace.

2. Determining what method of communication you will use and write short answers (eg 100 words) to the following planning questions:a. Outline the context – include a brief explanation of the issue you have chosen

b. Describe the audience and how their characteristics will influence the method you choose for communication with them (members and non-members, CALD? Literacy? Computer based workers)

c. Identify the purpose of communicating with them

TASK 2: Prepare and deliver an induction presentation.

Instructions:1. Refer to the induction presentation information provided in OW Course 7.2. Provide written answers to the following planning questions.

a. Who is your audience – who will you be presenting your induction to?b. What is the purpose of your induction?c. What is an appropriate venue for induction presentations and explain how this

venue will enhance your ability to present?d. How will you inoculate about potential barriers to union membership and

activism? Eg: using storiese. What perception of unions do you want people to have after your presentation?f. What features of potential members did you consider and how did these

considerations influence how and what you presented?g. What objections did you anticipate and what was your plan for dealing with

them?h. Do you have access to inductions at your target worksite? If you don’t, where

else would you be able to set up a similar presentation?3. Prepare an induction presentation. In preparation, read through the Induction

Presentation Observer Sheet (see next page) as this is what you will be assessed on.4. Deliver your induction presentation during the OW Program (Course 7). As you do

so, your Educator will complete the Induction Presentation Observer sheet.

NOTE: You will be expected to demonstrate communicating with potential members who are new employees.
