Task OutlineAs you complete this assessment task you will be demonstrating your skills and knowledge to your assessor. The assessor may also observe your practical skills and techniques and ask you questions. Ensure in your work practices that you work safely and efficiently, check that equipment is ready for use and work with others to improve work practices.

Part A: Written Work- to be completed and handed in to your teacher before project work commences

Complete the Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) relating to the production of your project. This must be completed before any work commences (Attachment A)

Using the Plans and Costing Lists provided .(Attachment B) you need to calculate the cost of the

Bread box, Dining table and Occasional table

Answer Questions about solid timber vs manufactured boards using the correct Materials Data Sheets ( MDS) ( Attachment C)

Produce a pictorial sketch of your Occasional table by freehand- including overall dimensions (Attachment G) after you have completed the practical components below

Part B: Practical Work

You are required to complete the following practical components using the steps to Production (attachment D)

Construct and assemble the components to the Job Plan specifications (see Attachment E).

Use specific joints indicated on the plans. ( Attachments F)

Your trainer will observe you during this process and may also ask you questions in relation to the skills activities.

While you are working you must also do the following:

a. Ensure quality assembly - squareness and accuracyb. Adhere to all safety requirements and PPEc. Use appropriate tools and machinesd. Use 3 different types of surface coatings

acrylic paint, lacquer, oil and waxes

e. Utilise finishing techniques to achieve an acceptable standard of surface preparation.

You also need to

Select the correct power tool/s -consistent with the needs of the job and in accordance with conventional work practices.

Tools need to be visually checked for serviceability and safety in accordance with WHS requirements,

You must report any faults in this equipment to your trainer.

Cut legs to length.

Mark out for and cut mortise slots and dowel holes.

Mark out and cut tapers on legs.

Cut rails to length.

Mark out and cut tenons in side rails.

Mark out and drill dowel holes in front and back rails.

Clean up components prior to assembly.
