SUMMARY
Rubicon Minerals Corporation, Suite 888, 1100 Melville Street, Vancouver, V6E 4A6, holds title to 18 unpatented claims (240 units) known as the Robbie Lake property. The property covers 3,840 hectares and is located 80 kilometres south of Timmins in the Larder Lake Mining Division, Ontario.
From September 23 to October 4, 1997, Rubicon Minerals Corporation conducted a gradient-array induced polarization survey on three claims within its Robbie Lake property. The work was part of a larger ground geophysical program centred around several clusters of untested airborne EM anomalies identified by the company in an OGS Open File Report. This, in conjunction with previous prospecting work carried out by the company, suggested that geophysical surveys would be an important step in defining the geology and localizing prospective areas.
Based on the work completed for Rubicon by Delta Geophysics, several areas of sulphide potential have been identified.
A program of additional gradient-array IP is recommended. This program should assist in determining the depth extent and spatial continuity of these anomalous zones.
1.0 SCOPE AND PURPOSE
From September 23 to October 4, 1997, Rubicon Minerals Corporation conducted an exploration field program on a portion (five claims) of its Robbie Lake property. A grid was established and geophysical surveys (mag, EM and IP) conducted on the southwest portion of the property. This report describes the results of the IP portion of the geophysical program, presents the data and makes recommendations for follow-up work.
2.0 LOGISTICS
A gradient-array induced polarization survey was completed on the property by a four-person crew, based near Lake Matagami. Access to the survey area was possible by four-wheel drive truck rented from National Tilden, Timmins Airport. This work was conducted by Ladislav Zabo (Geophysical Technician) and Shane Dench (Geophysical Technician) of Delta Geoscience Ltd., 852 Tsawwassen Beach Rd, Delta, BC, V4M 2J3, and assisted by Fred Blake and Robert Comstock (independent contractors). All data generated are presented at a scale of 1:5000 and are attached to this report.
3.0 PROPERTY DESCRIPTION
The property consists of 18 unpatented mining claims in 240 contiguous units covering a total area of 3,840 hectares. Claim data are summarized in Table 1. A property map is shown in Figure 1.
Seventeen claims are owned 100 07o by Rubicon Minerals Corporation, Suite 888 -1100 Melville Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6E 4A6. Rubicon holds title to the remaining claim (16 units) through an option agreement with Fred Blake, PO Box 187, Temagami, Ontario, POH 2HO.
The current report discloses geotechnical (geophysical survey) work conducted on two 16-unit claims (1211544 and 1223331) and one 15-unit claim (1223332) Burrows and Cabot Townships.

3.0 LOCATION and ACCESS
The property is located in the Larder Lake Mining Division, Ontario, 80 kilometres south of Timmins (Figure'1). The claim area straddles the boundary of Cabot and Burrows Townships, and one contiguous claim is located in the extreme southwest corner of Kemp Township. Geographic co-ordinates of the property centre are approximately latitude 470 45' N and longitude 81 0 25' W.
Timmins is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres north of Sudbury and 600 kilometres north of Toronto (Figure 1). The Timmins area is serviced by all-weather paved highway and by scheduled airline or bus service from North Bay, Sudbury and Toronto.
The property is accessed via Highway 560, ten kilometers northeast of Shining Tree and thence by a gravel road (the Grassy River Road) for a distance of 36 kilometres north from Highway 560. The property can also be accessed by the Papakameka Road south from Timmins, a d istance of approximately 100 kilometres.
4.0 PREVIOUS WORK
A review of government publications and assessment work filed at the Larder Lake MNDM office shows that the area staked by Rubicon has been under-explored. It has been suggested that this may be due to a combination of limited outcrop and a lack of historical mapping (Rogers, 1995).
On a regional basis, the area had been sporadically mapped from 1899 to 1933 (Carter, 1986).
An area currently within Rubicon claims 1212114 and 1212115 has been explored in the past. During 1957, Paymaster Consolidated Mines Ltd. completed a program of airborne EM and ground mag surveys, mapping and drilling of three holes. A narrow intersection containing up to 3.77 g/t Au was reported (Rogers, 1995). Immediately north of this area, Amax Potash Ltd. conducted ground mag, EM and geochem surveys, mapping and diamond drilling (two holes) from 1971 to 1972. A bedrock Cu/Pb/Zn geochem anomaly was outlined with this work.
An airborne geophysical survey conducted for The Hanna Mining Company in 1975 lead to the staking of 18 unpatented claims in an area of Burrows and Cabot Townships underlain by two EM/mag anomalies, currently covered by Rubicon claims 1212126, 1223331, 1223332 and 1223334. In 1976, Hanna Mining undertook a program of ground geophysics (EM and mag) and mapping, followed by diamond drilling. Three holes were drilled (one abandoned) to test the two EM anomalies, which were concluded to be the result of graphite. However, minor zincblende and chalcopyrite were noted in intermediate tuff immediately north of a graphitic zone in CB-76-1A and two 5 to 6 foot sections of core assayed Q.18% Zn and rj.04% Cu. A 6.5 foot section in CB-76-2 returned .005 oz/t Au and Q.50% Zn (Muhic, 1976).
Based on geophysical and geological surveys completed between 1981 and 1983, Newmont Exploration of Canada Ltd. drilled five holes in an area located in Rubicon claims 1212115 (two holes), 1212113, 1212117 and 1206323 and reported values of Q.60% Zn\0.61 metres and 0.4907oZn\1.22 metres (B-83-1). This location had previously been surveyed by Prospectors Airways Co. Ltd. in 1962 when ground mag and EM programs were conducted.
During 1991, Cominco Limited conducted ground EM and mag surveys over a 15-claim portion of their property currently within Rubicon claims 1223332 and 1223334. Two conductive anomalies were outlined but apparently not pursued.
In 1995, Rubicon Minerals staked a core set of claims in Burrows and Cabot Townships, followed by further staking in 1996. Initial prospecting located a large angular chalcopyrite-bearing piece of float on claim 1223331 (MacVeigh, 1997). Rubicon subsequently conducted a two-phase program of ground geophysics in 1996 and 1997.
As noted by Rogers (1995), the area hosts numerous untested AEM anomalies, a favourable geological environment and a number of mineral deposits.
A summary of previous work in the Robbie Lake area is presented in Table 2.

6.0 PHYSIOGRAPHY and VEGETATION
Most of the area is covered by thick glacial deposits; eskers, kames, and reworked (windblown) glacial deposits which are spotted with glacial carved lakes and potholes. Low outcrop areas ^1 07o) occur in the eastern and northwestern part of claim 1223331, on the north boundary of claim 1211550, and on claims 1212126 and 1206323. Outcrop is more prevalent in the most recently staked eastern part of the prop erty but is still less than 3 0xb.
The entire area was burned by an extensive fire in late 1950. As a result of a major replanting program in the 1960s the area now boasts a healthy growth of redpine, whitepine, jackpine and spruce. The deciduous forest component is poplar and birch. Hazelbrush and aider are the dominant undergrowth.

9.0 SURVEY PROCEDURE
9.1 ROBBIE LAKE GRID
The Robbie Lake Grid lines were established on these claims with a bearing of 324 degrees. The lines, going from 4750N to 6000N, are spaced 100 metres apart, and are tied together by a baseline at 5000N. Station spacing is 25 metres.
The primary survey was conducted using a 1650 metre current dipole (AB) with a 50 metre receiver dipole (D). The grid was surveyed in two blocks, overlapping at line 7000E. The current dipole electrodes were set up on lines 6800E and 7200E with block centre stations at 5375N. Detailing was conducted with 1100 metre and 600 metre current clipoles, and block centres at 5300N. A 50 metre receiver dipole was used for the 1100 metre AB and a 25 metre receiver dipole was used for the 600 metre AB.
A total of 16.2 line kilometres was surveyed (includes detailing and overlap).
9.2 OLD COMINCO GRID
The bearing of the Old Cominco Grid lines is 360 degrees, with lines going from 400S to TOON. Line separation was 200 metres, and data was taken at 25 metre intervals along these lines.
The initial survey was conducted using a 1 650 metre current dipole (AB) on line 1600E with a 50 metre receiver dipole (D). The block centre station was 150N. Detailing was conducted with 1100 metre and 600 metre current dipoles, and block centres at 250N. A 50 metre receiver dipole was used for the 1100 metre AB and a 25 metre receiver dipole was used for the 600 metre AB.
A total of 4.2 line kilometres was surveyed (includes detailing).
10.0 DISCUSSION OF THE DATA
A gradient-array induced polarization (IP) survey defines the areas in which mineralization may exist. Chargeability and apparent resistivity are two significant rock properties which can be determined from an IP survey. Chargeability, the rock's ability to hold an electric charge, is measured in miliseconds (ms). This is the average time over which the current within the rock decays to zero. Apparent resistivity is a measure of the rock's ability to pass an electric current through it. This is measured in ohm-metres (ohm-m), a product of the average resistance of the rock mass and its thickness. From a mineral exploration aspect, areas where high chargeability values are associated with low apparent resistivities typically indicate the presence of sulphides.
10.1 ROBBIE LAKE GRID
The variation of chargeabilities over the grid is approximately from O ms to 12 ms, with a general trend of 75 degrees to grid North (Figures 2 and 3). The largest area of high chargeability values is located between 51 SON and 5450N on lines 6600E through 6900E. Other areas of high chargeability are located on the South ends of lines 6900E through 7400E.
Apparent resistivities range from approximately 700 ohm-m to 121000 ohm-m (Figures 10 and 11). High apparent resistivity values dominate the southern part of the grid, not extending beyond the baseline (5000N), possibly outlining the contact between the highly resistive bedrock and the overburden. The values on the remainder of the grid are uniform, with apparent resistivities below 3000 ohm-m.
Sections extending from a depth of 99 metres to 272 metres have been created for lines 6600E through 6800E, centred around 5300N (Figures 4 to 9 and 12 to 17). The chargeability sections suggest a thickening of the target with increasing depth. The apparent resistivity sections show little variation, suggesting uniformly resistive overburden.
10.2 OLD COMINCO GRID
The variation of chargeabilities over the grid is approximately from -2 ms to 26 ms (Figures 18 and 19). Two areas of high chargeability values are centred around 150N on line 1600E and 275S on line 1400E.
Apparent resistivities range from approximately 100 ohm-m to 13600 ohm-m (Figures 22 and 23). High apparent resistivity values dominate the south-eastern part of the grid. Increased apparent resistivities (4000 to 5000 ohm-m) are also present on the north-eastern section of the grid. Low apparent resistivities are present between lines 1400E and 1600E centered at 275S. A second zone of low apparent resistivity extends across the grid centered around 325N
The section extending from a depth of 99 metres to 272 metres has been created for line 1600E with block center at 250N (Figures 20, 21, 24 and 25). The chargeability and apparent resistivity sections indicate a n arrow, almost vertical anomaly centered on 250N.
11.0 CONCLUSIONS
The gradient-array IP survey of Robbie Lake and Old Cominco grids outlined several significant areas of high chargeability and low apparent resistivity, indicating the sulphide potential of this property.
12.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
Further investigation of these areas will provide further insight into the depth extent and spatial continuity of the anomalous zones identified in this survey. A continuing program of gradient-array induced polarization is recommended. Recommended work is summarized below.
(1) Increased current dipole length (AB) for the purpose of determining the depth extent of the anomalous zone.
(2) Extension of the Old Cominco Grid to the south-west for detailed investigation of the anomaly identified in the south-west corner.
