Amy Cleary

My group have chosen “Drama”

as our genre.

Page 2: Assignment 12

Magdalene Sisters.

The storyline inspires me at it is a true story and

is very moving as I can relate to the characters

as they around the same age as me. It shows the

reality of what life was like around the 1960’s in

Ireland if you committed sins.

The Impossible

These characters are very inspirational as they

are a typical family and they get separated in a

natural disaster, it shows you the meaning of life

as they almost never see each other again.

Page 3: Assignment 12

The Pursuit of Happyness

The scene when the father and son are in the

toilet in the tube station as they get kicked

out their apartment because the father cant

afford the rent.

My Sisters Keeper

The storyline is moving because it happens in

real life all the time and it shows the familys

struggle having a child who has a terminal

illness.

The style would be a “enigma”.

I have chose this type because it leaves the

audience wondering how she got there, why

she is there, why the doctors are shocked.

Page 7: Assignment 12

My narrative structure is non linear because

it starts near the end. This is similar to

slumdog millionaire.

It is a contemporary modular narrative as it

has a split screen of the lady in the hospital

bed and her husband or boyfriend at home.

I have applied it to Barthes theory of enigma,

as it leaves mystery from the audience.

Page 8: Assignment 12

Characters

Female 21 Known as a “good

girl” never causes

trouble.

Male 22 The typical

“macho” and

“strong” boyfriend,

wants to protect

his girlfriend.

Female 20 Friend of the other

female and a bit of

a trouble maker, is

partly responsible.

Setting.

The setting is set in a hospital to start as that is where the lady

wakes up. It then has a flashback to a party.

Conventions Reinforce/challenge/

develop

Why?

Conflict Reinforce There is always conflict in

dramas that is the main

purpose for dramas.

Problems Challenge There has to be problems

so there can be a

resolution.

Real life situations Reinforce It has to be as realistic as

possible so the audience

can relate to it.

Crime Challenge Crime is a convention

because drama films are

realistic and crime

happens.

Follows characters

journey

Reinforce So you can see how they

get on and what happens.

Page 10: Assignment 12

I would have cheery titles and credits

because it would contradict the storyline as

the storyline is sad and happy.

All of the font and size would be the same

apart from the title, that would be bigger.

It would be in Bradley Hand font and the size

would be 44 and the title size would be

72.
