North in this map is decided based on the placement of plants that require afternoon vs morning sun. Since the plants to the left of the freeway require morning sun and it is our highest point on the map, the slopes would face out from the freeway, meaning that to get morning sun, they must face east(ish). Scale is determined based on the freeway and backed up with the size of the commercial area and street. Given the size of a standard 8-lane freeway, the scale was determined to be 1“=150’. The context of the site is determined to be around a channelized river in a suburban area. The site is likely in a place that receives moderate amounts of water or is irrigated, as many of the plants in the plan require moderate water according to WUCOLS. The most likely plant zone is 9 based on the Western Garden book. When it comes to the history of the site, it is likely something that was a historically agricultural zone, but as the city expanded, the suburban spaces began to mush against the agricultural areas. There are also some areas that are likely conserved and kept safe from development. The site is home to two citrus groves, a wetland and development that transformed the site into a suburban area. Using plants helps us locate certain elements on site. While there are still some California natives growing near the freeway and a wetland near the river channel that have likely not been disturbed heavily by the construction, there are many ornamental plants not native to California that are give signs of development. Based on the plants growing in the site, it is very likely that it is located in Southern California. The plants that help us identify this are the California natives along with plants that only grow well in a Mediterranean climate. The wetland is easy to spot due to plants growing in the area and its location near the river. The freeway on-ramps and off-ramps were located based on the location of the Digitaria growing nearby which love disturbed soils near freeways. The residential area is based on the large amount of trees planted nearby. While it could also be a park, residential is more likely as it is located off the main street.

The river on site likely serves as the main collection point of water throughout the site. It likely flows to the south-east based on the location of the wetland/flood zone which would more likely be downstream. Based on the way water flows from the freeway, it is likely the freeway is the high point which water flows from. This water goes through some planting and either hits the citrus groves or the river.Since the ornamental plants near the residential homes and commercial area likely need irrigation, any water that might runoff would go into the storm drain system for the area and lead into the river.

The lowest point on site is likely the wetland located in the south-east. This is so that it can collect all the water on site and from the river. The river is on a downward slope heading towards the wetland from the north-west.The freeway is likely the highest point on the site and goes above the river and street. The dense collection of plants against the edge helps indicate this as well as the fact that the citrus groves are located away from the freeway a fair bit. The highest point on the freeway is likely the center point above the street. It is goes down from this point on both ends similar to a bridge. The residential and commercial area are likely around the same height topographically to keep development as flat as possible. Building on slopes is not easy and does not work as well. It is not as high as the freeway because it must pass under the freeway, yet is above the river and wetland to prevent flooding.

The commercial zone was decided based on the store names given and some of the nearby clues, such as the patio and parking. The lines of Citrus trees on both sides of the freeway signaled that the site was likely home to an agricultural project. Based on the location of both the agricultural zones and the commercial zone, it is most likely that there is no residential zone on the site, but that it may be very close, as indicated by the church and school. Based on the size of the agricultural zone, the site is likely a suburban space that was once agricultural land which was sold off for money to be developed into a suburban zone. This is supported by the fact that only part of the river near the development is channelized.
