What is your favourite topic out of the three?
What is your favourite topic out of the three?
I asked 20 people an these were the results that I got:
RESEARCH • The idea of beauty pageants
first struck up in America • Originally it was for 11-18 year
olds however it was then overpopulated so then it changed from 1 month-18 years of age.
• A child would have no more than one minute and a half on stage and would typically spend up to 4 hours getting ready backstage.
• Children are judged on their individuality, capability and confidence.
Beauty pageants• A child beauty pageants
includes children up until the age of 18.
These talent shows include children dressing up in:
SWIMWEAR
PARTY WEAR
CASUAL WEAR
EVENING WEAR
THEME WEAR OUTFIT OF CHOICE
Debates about beauty pageants
Results I went around the study room and
asked 30 people aged 16-18 what they thought about beauty pageants for children and these were the results:
Pros Cons
Beauty pageants teach kids to be their best
Parents enter children for their own insecurities
The majority of beauty pageants may be fun for the children and show them new experiences
They teach that self worth is only in physical beauty.
For some children it may boost their self esteem
For most children their self esteem might be lowered
They teach kids to follow rules and to be fair
They may enlarge a child's ego to a bad level
Beauty pageants are for both sexes so no one is left out
They encourage girls to grow up too fast
They teach good life lessons It worsens paedophilia
There should be better alternatives to build a child's self esteem
Pros & cons
Toddlers and tiaras • This is an American TV
documentary about kids who enter for beauty pageants.
• The documentary goes through each beauty pageant contestant and how their families prepare for it
• It was aired on a American channel called D-MAX
• This TV show also shows the top 10 controversial parents
• The show is on almost everyday at 6pm and lasts for an hour. The target audience may be teens and younger children as they would have come back from school and would be probably watching TV at that time
Is this acceptable?

As in this video one of the mothers said that she is making her child do this for her to raise money for her college.

However in this programme it seems that the parents are entering their children because of their own insecurities
INSPIRATION
• My inspiration was my big fat gypsy wedding which was shown on channel 4.
• It inspired me because of the conventions used.
• Such as: the voice-over, the interviews with the parents and also the bride themselves.
• The pros and cons such as the problems faced being a gypsy.
• Also from what the children wear, it is the same as what you would see children from a beauty pageant would wear.
TARGET AUDIENCE• The target audience would
be 16+ as the documentary would be shown at 8pm.
• It would appeal to that age group because the adults would be interested in what other adults put their children into
• Also teenagers would find this genre particularly interested as programmes such as my big fat gypsy wedding were very successful for that age group.
Chosen channel
• I would put it on channel 4 because channel 4 mostly broadcasts similar subjects.
• E.g. my big fat gypsy wedding
• Channel 4 also broadcasts documentaries which are aimed at a teenage audience.
Seven dwarves: the wedding
TIME it would be shown
This documentary would be shown at 8pm. As they would have come back from school and did their assignments and the parents would have come back from work and they want to relax.
