The Stair Climb Assist (SCA) is a mechanized knee brace that is meant to aid people with bad knees by carrying some of the weight felt by users.

The SCA uses a wire cable and reel system that is connected to a DC motor that controls the system. Sensors are used to create data about the condition of the knee.

That data is then fed to a microprocessor which determines whether the brace should turn on or off.

A concern field robotics is providing a simple and robust scheme for expressing maps and scans for later assessment by a human operator. In the case of demining, scanning assistance robots, such as the Gryphon robot, generate maps of potential mine threats based on multiple metal detector scans of a particular area.
