Technozym ADAMTS‐13 Activity Calibration (RUO) A WHO International Standard (IS) for ADAMTS‐13 has been proposed, which can serve as a reference mate‐

rial and help with variability and sensitivity issues with ADAMTS‐13 testing in plasma.

Once the WHO standard is available, it will be used for calibration of the Technozym ADAMTS‐13 calibrators

in the ELISA kits. Technoclone, the manufacturer, participated in the study and reports that the actual values

of the calibrators for ADAMTS13 activity will not change significantly using the WHO standard for calibra‐

tion.

The proposed WHO 1st IS was prepared from a pool of 38 normal healthy donors. Thirty‐two (32) laborato‐

ries from 14 countries participated in the study to assign values for ADAMTS13 activity and antigen. Eight‐

een (18) laboratories used a Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) assay and 9 used an activity ELI‐

SA to measure ADAMTS13 function. Pooled normal plasma designated 1.0 U/mL was used for value assign‐

We are saddened to announce the passing of the beloved cofounder of George King

Bio‐Medical, Inc., Marian King. She was a great lady with a huge heart and will be

greatly missed. Marian worked alongside George since the company started in

1973. She was able to see the company continue to thrive under the leadership of

her daughter, Kathryn (King) Blasco after George passed away in 1987. The legacy

continues as Marianʹs son‐in‐law, Ed Blasco and granddaughters, Katie Wilkes and

Kelly Wornall, join with Kathy in the leadership of the company.

NASCOLA would like to pay tribute to Marian King and the vital role she had in

helping to make George King Bio‐Medical what it is today.
