Recent supervisorial experience in a business office setting

THE POSITION

The San Bruno Park School District is seeking an Associate Superinten-dent, Business Services—the chief fiscal officer of the District. This po-sition is responsible for the overall operations of the Business Services departments. Under the direction of the Superintendent, this cabinet-level position formulates, imple-ments, evaluates, and communi-cates fiscal policy and procedures.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT

The District serves 2,550 students in five elementary schools and one middle school, which is a recipient of the California Department of Ed-ucation’s Gold Ribbon Award. The District’s rich cultural and socioeco-nomic diversity is nurtured by a dedicated faculty committed to en-suring success for all students.

The District’s General Fund budget is approximately $32 million.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Superintendent, Busi-ness Services, is responsible for:

Budget and Accounting

Preparing the annual budget and ensuring efficient budget management

Conferring with and advising management team members on budget matters

Maintaining accounting proce-dures adequate to record, in detail, all transactions

Maintaining equipment inven-tories and permanent records of all District business matters as required by law

Purchasing, Contracts, and Man-agement

Preparing formal bid docu-ments, specifications, and ad-

vertisements for major purposes and projects in accordance with the Public Contract Code

Overseeing the progress of con-tracts resulting from letting bids and preparing necessary docu-ments upon completion of pro-ject

Classified Human Resources

Administering effective classified human resources, including eval-uations

Staff Supervision

Supervising accounting, food services, maintenance and oper-ations, and administrative assis-tants

Supervising the administration of insurance programs and the payroll and fringe benefit pro-gram

Supervising the business office

Overseeing the collection of de-veloper fees and issuance of fa-cilities use permits

Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation

Directing, assisting and evalu-ating the Maintenance Depart-ment

Ensuring coordination of ser-vices rendered with the site ad-ministrators

Assisting in facilities planning and implementation

Community and Public Relations

Keeping informed of local, state, and national issues which affect the District

Attending appropriate meetings of state and other agencies serv-ing the District and keeping cur-rent regarding financial and budgetary issues

Utilizing District Budget Study Ad-visory Committee to insure fiscal solvency

Superintendent Support

Assisting in the planning for short- and long-range site maintenance and improvements

Providing support for collective bargaining

Report Preparation

Preparing, or overseeing prepara-tion of, required/requested state reports for the California Depart-ment of Education, Federal De-partment of Education, auditors and other agencies

Preparing, or overseeing prepara-tion of, required reports for the Office of Local Assistance and/or State Allocation Board Debt Fi-nancing

Responsible for administering the District’s capital facilities financing program(s), tracking debt, and assuring debt payments are made
