OVERVIEW OF MONHTLY ACTIVITIES, EVENTS, ENGAGEMENTS

October Recap

➢ Rock the Vote In collaboration with GPSS, FIUTS, the Residential Community Student Association, and UAW

4121, this month ASUW put on a “Get out the Vote!” event to celebrate the upcoming midterm elections, provide

students with information about how and where to vote, and remind them why it’s important to get involved.

➢ Día de los Muertos The ASUW’s La Raza Student Commission, along with the Samuel E. Kelly Ethnic Cultural

Center, put on their annual Día de los Muertos celebration, teaching students the history of the holiday, hosting

activities like face painting and sugar skull decorating, and giving Latinx students space to celebrate their culture.

➢ Tri-Campus Meeting This past month, ASUW Seattle and GPSS hosted the first quarterly tri-campus student

leader meeting, where we learned about the structures, advocacy, and programming that each of our student

associations focus on, as well as introducing our executive board to each other to facilitate cross-campus

collaboration.

Autumn Quarter Forecast Throughout the rest of the quarter, ASUW will continue providing a forum for student opinion,

connecting students with the resources they need, and advocating for student opinion. More specifically, we will continue

to draft our legislative agenda and plan Huskies on the Hill, in collaboration with GPSS and UW Impact, to lobby for

adequate funding of higher education by the state and reduce the financial student burden.

OVERVIEW OF YEARLY GOALS, PROGRESS TOWARDS GOALS, CHALLENGES

What’s on the minds of our students?

➢ Resolution 25-4: A Resolution in Support of Callisto In a survey conducted by Health and Wellness in 2016,

almost 25% of UW student reported experiencing sexual assault or harassment while at the University, and only

a small percentage reported these incidents to a UW employee or office. In an effort to both increase reporting

to official sources at the University and to prevent future sexual violence, ASUW Senate has passed a resolution

to implement Callisto, as championed by former Student Regent Jaron Goddard.

➢ Resolution 25-7: Expansion of Campus Libraries' Hours While to University prides itself upon and draws

prospective students through its expansive scholarly resources, namely its globally-renowned library system,

which ranks among the largest in the world, these spaces are only open during limited hours. Therefore, the

ASUW Senate has passed a resolution encouraging the University to expand the operating hours of the Odegaard

and Suzzallo libraries to best serve students in their educational pursuits.
