AEE CRC - CHAPTER UPDATE 2015-16 12/5/16 Columbia River Chapter of AEE, 818 SW 3rd Ave #271, Portland, OR 97204 [email protected] Association of Energy Engineers - Columbia River Chapter (AEE CRC) Chapter Update, 2016 The Columbia River Chapter (CRC) has put the wrap on another super year of energy activity, reaching new heights of efficiency and efficacy! Our Board attracted new officers, continued awesome programs and initiated fresh planning. Seeking to cooperate with other industries and organizations in our energetic valley, CRC began the collaborative endeavors of the Energy Engineering Forum with Energy Trust of Oregon, and coordinating with Oregon ASHRAE Chapter on marketing and sponsorship of education events. Both have been successful and helpful! We feel this joint stewardship and advancement of our industry is the way to go and are looking forward to another year of teamwork. The quarterly Energy Engineering Forum was hugely popular attracting over 200 students this year. The forum is targeted towards energy engineers and energy managers, and focused on field engineering and data analysis techniques for commercial and industrial facilities. Topics covered included steam systems, retrocommissioning, compressed air and chilled water plants. Thanks to all the presenters and sponsors that contributed to this valuable program. Topics for 2017? ASHRAE and CRC joined for our annual Building Tour, chartering a visit to the Bullitt Center in Seattle. Key building systems - ground source heat pumps, LED lights, the living machine for waste management, and a green roof with solar panels - were explored, as well as the amazing central plant, conveniently placed behind a window for easy viewing. Siemens treated everyone to a happy hour on the ride home. This was a fun, technically educational day for all! The widely recognized weeklong Certified Energy Manager (CEM) training and exam was again conveniently hosted by CRC at Veris Industries in Portland, Oregon. Energy managers learned, system by system, how to diagnose and analyze energy savings opportunities from the excellent Dr. Eric Woodroof. This year brings our total trained energy managers to over 200! The Wrench of the Year Awards honor two true "wrenches" - folks working on plant floors and in utility rooms to make machines run right and tight. Congratulations to Vlad Davidovich of Blount International and Andy Hart at Owens Corning for their resourceful diligence in tracking down energy savings this year! Each winner receives the cool Wrench trophy, a $500 check and an energy reference handbook. And finally, AEE CRC hosted our Holiday Party at the comfy Lompoc Sidebar. The familiar jazz trio, appetizers and libations warmed energy engineers, toasting another successful year.
