Page 2: Asteroids

Asteroids Are small, airless rocky worlds

revolving around the sun that are too small to be called planets. They are also known as planetoids or minor planets.

Most asteroids lie in a vast ring between the orbits of mars and jupiter. This main asteroid belt holds more than 200 asteroids larger than 60 miles (100 kilometers) in diameter.

Asteroids are also categorized by their position in the solar system

Main belt Near Earth Asteroids Atens Appollos Amors Trojans

2 types of ASTEROIDS:1. MINOR PLANETS2. MAJOR PLANETS

Page 5: Asteroids

Major planets Is an astronomical object in direct

orbit the sun that is neither a planet nor exclusively classified as comet.

Page 6: Asteroids

Major planet Any of the 9 large celestial bodies in

the solar system that revolve around the sun & shine by reflected light major planet.

Ceres Is the largest object in the asteroid

belt that lies between the orbits of Mars & Jupiter. Its diameter is approximately 945 kilometer or 875miles.

Giuseppe Piazzi Was an italian Catholic priest of the

Theatine Order, mathemetician & astronomer. Perhaps his most famous discovery was the 1st dwarf planet is CERES.

PALERMO Is noted for its history, culture,

architecture & gastronomy.

The 4 terrestrial or innermost planets have dense, rocky compositions, few or no moons & no ring systems, they are composed largely of refractory minerals , such as the silicates, which form their crusts & mantles & metals, such as iron & nickel, which from their cores.

Planetoids is another term for asteroids, which are also called MINOR PLANETS. Planetoids are small celestial bodies that orbit the sun.

Page 13: Asteroids

Asteroids-planetoids; were discovered in 1801, & manymore have been discovered since then up until 1977, almost all the asteroids discovered were near JUPITER.

Some of the largests planetoids are spherical & look like tiny version of PLANETS.

Most Planetoids are in region called the ASTEROID BELTS which is situated between MARS & JUPITER. There are millions of Planetoids in this Region.

This model, known as the Nebular Hypothesis, was 1st developed in the 18th century by Emmanul Swedenburg, immunel Kant & pierre Simon Laplace

System located roughly between the planets MARS & JUPITER.

Trojans Are populations that share an orbit

with larger planet or moon.
