Yoga is regarded as one of the most effectivemethods of establishing a connection between thebody minds by Indian sages since time immemorial. It is a type of exercise that is performed throughdiet, breathing and physical posture for therelaxation of body and mind. This ancient form ofholistic healing got a formal recognition by theUnited Nations General Assembly on December 11,2014. The UN General Assembly formallyrecognized 21st June as the World Yoga Day.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speechto the UN General Assembly suggested the date21st June as World Yoga Day. The date holdsspecial significance as it is the longest day in thenorthern hemisphere and is one of special two dayswhen the rays of the sun directly hit one of the twotropical latitude lines.
The change of the sun’s relationship with the planetbears a significant impact on the lives of theinhabitants of this planet, especially for peopleresiding within eighteen degrees to forty-eightdegrees north latitude, because this part of the earthgets the maximum impact in this shifting.NGMA this year received an overwhelmingresponse from the officials, participated andstretched themselves right in the morning.

Biren De has titled his paintings after the month hepainted them. The title and the date is irrelevant. Butthere is something so distinctive and common to allof them, which is more significant. Biren de explainsabout his works, ”a concept of light as the nucleusthe matrix, which spreads, shoots, radiates. It is atranscendental vision of light (jyoti), radiant andexplosive as only the primal light can be. It is equallysuggestive of energy of life.”.
Biren De was Modern & Contemporary painter whowas born in 1926. He was known for his paintings ofgloomy geometric, symmetrical patterns withbrilliant shining effects against a dark backgrounds.De’s use of mandalas and other geometrical signshas tone of Hindu and Tantric Buddhist symbolicrepresentation of the male and female energies. Theprevalent discourse tags his artworks with the “Neo-Tantric” label. However he was not comfortable withsuch tags and believed: “I am an agnostic…I don’ttalk about these [Tantric] things, but I know aboutenergy.”

“My paintings, I believe, are organic examples of the total me; ofwhat I am and what I would like to be: a continuous striving, andtherefore, a struggle, to put the shattered pieces together and makea composite whole. My guideline is oscillation between two points:between the peace of a graveyard and the peace of the Centre ofthe sun. Either way there is no END, no finality.” Biren De
