II. Quorum Roll CallIII. Appointments and Confirmations

A. New ASUCD Senators – 8:52a. Anas Treshb. Sarah Prianoc. Gabriel Johnsond. Miguel Guerreroe. Danielle Mae Santiagof. Sevan Nahabedian

B. Pro-Temporea. Alex Lee

C. Courta. Fatayerji – What experience do both of you have in making judgments on opinions

versus rules?i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – Not too much experience, but I’m taking

communications, and mom is a judge.ii. Sneha Patrachari – Core values at CALPIRG.

b. Rivilis – Spirit or letter of the law?i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – Spirit of the law.

ii. Sneha Patrachari – Letter of the law gets constricting. Spirit of the law is based on interpretations.

c. Johnson – Can you describe a time when you had to put your opinions aside to make a decision you thought was correct?

i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – ii. Sneha Patrachari – In group situations, sometimes it’s not the ideal match,

but you have to put your opinions aside to get the projects done.d. Lee – What do you know about bylaws and constitution?

i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – ii. Sneha Patrachari – Not much, but willing to learn.

e. Santiago – Why do you feel inspired to go for this position?i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – Want to get some experience. I had no idea what

ASUCD was before.ii. Sneha Patrachari – This position gives more authority and power to

influence decisions on campus. f. Lee – I’m objecting to confirming because I’m not comfortable with having 2 court

justices who aren’t familiar with bylaws at all. g. Nguyen – Did you know anything about the constitution before you confirmed? (at

other court justices)h. Alex – Some were court clerks, some had no experience. Court justice training takes

place in the first week after the confirmation. i. Hayley – I feel like this training is enough, especially with experience. We always

have access to constitution and bylaws, thoroughly support any justices going back

Page 3: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

over the bylaws. I do think there’s a lot of reviewing and learning done on the job. If they exhibit a willingness to learn, that’s what’s most important.

j. Nguyen – Would just like to make a statement on behalf of the two elects. They don’t have ASUCD experience, but a lot of senators didn’t either. From our interviews, they showed a lot of ambition and willingness to learn.

k. Santiago – What else are you involved in that could take away from you trying to gain experience?

i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – I don’t have any other clubs or activities. ii. Sneha Patrachari – Not right now. I was in different clubs, but this position

was to develop stronger leadership and gain interpersonal skills. This is my priority for extracurricular activities. Also I don’t think other extracurriculars would take away, only build upon.

l. Fatayerji – Very hard issues come to court at times. When have you experienced a challenging time where you had to abide by rules rather than your personal judgment?

i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – Don’t have formal experience, but I promise I will try. ii. Sneha Patrachari – There was a time in high school, a court simulation.

m. Sabbagh – I think the argument of them not having enough experience is valid, but in the place that ASUCD is right now, not enough people even want to be in ASUCD right now. If we keep on turning people away who don’t know enough about ASUCD, then we won’t have anyone in ASUCD. We should have faith in the interview process

n. Jaroszewska – They have an institutionalized training system too. o. Nguyen – I served on the hiring committee, I wouldn’t vouch for them if they

weren’t qualified. p. Nahabedian – I’m sitting at this table, and I’m a freshman, and I have little

experience. Conventional experience is less important than willingness to learn. More experienced judges will help them. Can I ask what the training process is like?

q. Alex – We maintain a document of formal justice training. Happens within 10 school days of confirmation. Everything in the document, plus a writing experience and trial experience.

r. Nahabedian – We can see past the lack of experience, but if I can get a good story about a time that you’ve had to make a difficult decision, that’s where I’m standing.

i. Aixin Huo (Tinsley) – Like now, I’ve come here to attend this meeting, and everyone is talking about this. It is difficult as my first experience, but I choose to stay here.

ii. Sneha Patrachari – Publicity chair for CALPIRG. A lot of CALPIRG is visibility. We had to make a major decision on what campaigns would create better visibility. You had to fight for campaigns that you thought were important.

s. Chollampat – Just wanted to address confirming one student over another. I just wanted to mention that English is not her first language, just because she’s not comfortable answering a question, doesn’t mean one candidate is better than the other. If both of them are here, then they’re willing to learn. You have 2 people

Page 4: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

standing here who are eager. Just because one person can eloquently say what they want to say, doesn’t mean the other isn’t just as eager to learn.

t. Rivilis – There’s the idea that we confirm court and commission on the same standards. These are people who serve their entire term in Davis. Historically, on the court, we typically appoint people who either had a lot of experience making decisions or experience in understanding bylaws. We’re confirming 2 candidates that don’t have experience or knowledge of bylaws. Willing to learn for commissions is different from willing to learn in court.

u. Confirmed (7-4-1) IV. Unit Director Reports

A. The Aggiea. Munna – RFP we were working on. Got no bids on it, so we’re going to do RFI with

business contracts. We finished our website, so we’re in better position to sell online ads and display videos. We started selling classifieds. We just launched our creative submission magazine. We’re doing a video desk, started doing hirings. We’ll have a video editor. We are planning on partnering with UWP, they are thinking about delegating a faculty member to be our official mentor. They’re also thinking about establishing a freshman seminar, mandatory for incoming Aggie reporters. Also looking into seeing if other UC newspapers partner with campus writing programs.

i. Lee – Equipment for video desk?ii. Munna – Staff members have personal equipment.

iii. Bach – How short are you on writers?iv. Munna – We’re not too short on writers. We already have an agreement

with UWP for students with an adequate news story.v. Nguyen – Reaching out to clubs so they can buy advertising?

vi. Munna – Haven’t done it yet, willing to look into it.vii. Hill – Do you want to talk about financials and history of printing situation?

viii. Munna – As it stands, we amount to $3000 in expenses, not including distribution van.

ix. Hill – Do you want to tell the table about the debt situation you’re in?x. Munna – Slowly creating debt over 10 years now. Aggie Recharge fees,

electricity, WiFi, 55-60k in debt. xi. Hill – How do you plan on recouping some income?

xii. Munna – We put up our business manager apps 5 times, got 2 applicants. We have 1 ad manager, 2 sales reps, working on training them.

xiii. Kapur – Is that possibly a reason why another org doesn’t want to take you on?

xiv. Munna – Our debt isn’t really out there in public domain, but it’s a reason why we’re not reaching out to alumni. As far as other news orgs go, we are a valuable partner to have.

xv. Kapur – Any talk of a fee initiative?xvi. Munna – Talked with Chandler, it’s our Plan B. Plan A is boosting online ad

revenue.

Page 5: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

xvii. Kapur – Would that even come close to how much a fee initiative would create?

xviii. Chandler – Yes, it could, but a fee initiative would do it instantaneously. xix. Kapur – I’m leaning towards the fee initiative. xx. Rivilis – What else can you learn from UCLA and UC Berkeley newspapers?

xxi. Munna – I don’t think we found another system that they’re implementing that we could use, but they’ve been offering their assistance to get us back on our feet.

xxii. Rivilis – How willing are you for fee initiative?xxiii. Munna – I’m willing, would have to talk to editors. xxiv. Bach – You say Daily Bruin makes 40k a year?xxv. Munna – Yes, just from classifieds.

xxvi. Garcia – Let’s say a student had a question about how they were represented in an article. Who would they talk to? I was interviewed, pronouns were wrong.

xxvii. Munna – Email me, managing editor. I apologize for your situation, will pass that along to writers.

xxviii. Garcia – Would you be willing to get together with me and a few others so that writers can be required to ask for pronouns before interviews?

xxix. Kapur – On the topic of UCLA and Berkeley, they are in a lot different media markets than Davis, be aware of that. I was in a meeting about comparing with UCs, we can compare with any school around the country, expand minds beyond UC. Another question: archives. Students don’t know about them, would you make them more accessible?

xxx. Munna – I think we should make that available. Yeah. xxxi. Tresh – You said debt started accruing 10 years ago? How did that happen?

xxxii. Munna – It was just us not being able to get enough ad revenue to meet aggie recharge fees.

xxxiii. Hill – They used to print real newspapers, operating budgets were much higher. About a year ago, they stopped going into print. They accrued a lot more because they were operating on a larger scale.

xxxiv. Tresh – Approx. what’s your annual revenue?xxxv. Munna – Right now, we’re not making any revenue. Last year, when we

went out of print, we didn’t want to dig into a deeper hole. xxxvi. Tresh – Talk to B&F, look into fundraising? You should try to look into

outside revenues.xxxvii. Munna – Completely agree, searching for more.

xxxviii. Priano – I was wondering if you could rent older archives to museums as a source of revenue?

xxxix. Fatayerji – Would you consider an art exhibit for Picnic Day?xl. Munna – Showing off our archives? Never considered it, but maybe.

B. Aggie ReUse – 9:09a. Chyunyen – During this quarter, Aggie ReUse has been closed because we recently

moved from the MU to the Silo. There were multiple logistic issues, so we were

Page 6: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

more focused on the back-room issues. Aggie ReUse closed on Dec. 5th. We spent a lot of time planning out the storefront. Fire safety inspection was pushed back over and over again. We passed the inspection last Friday, so we’re officially ready to open. Aggie ReUse has 2 members on the admin staff level. Unit Director hirings are happening right now. Future plans: open on the very first day of Spring Quarter. We’ve been working our way on social platforms, garnering more attention than other quarters. We are sending out volunteer scheduling soon.

i. Bach – You plan to open first day of spring quarter, so moving process is fine?

ii. Chyunyen – Yes.iii. Jaroszewska – How much help do you need in terms of advertising the

opening for the spring? Do you need help publicizing the unit director posiition?

iv. Chyunyen – We have been posting on new director hirings. We plan to post again sometime next week. We sent out emails to volunteers and general public. We have been gathering attention, and not just from students of ASUCD. We would like more people to help us publicize. Just search us up on Facebook.

v. Rivilis – Have you had any difficulty selling your inventory?vi. Chyunyen – We don’t have an issue accumulating inventory. We have been

getting some emails from people about looking into our inventory, so we need to re-index. In general, we don’t have an issue selling, but one thing that has come up is that we have to reform our prices. Our prices have been updated, and we’re reforming so that value matches price.

vii. Garcia – You might want to check in that people who are no longer working with you shouldn’t be allowed to manage your social media. I know previously that GASC grouped together with Aggie ReUse to have a workshop. Do you think that’s an option in the future?

viii. Chyunyen – We are always happy to have other organizations collaborate with us. GASC is one example, and also the Sustainability Office has been coming to us for old t-shirts to make t-shirt bags. Definitely more publicity to let student orgs know we are a resource; that will give us publicity and help us promote our message of up-cycling.

ix. Garcia – Change of prices. As someone who likes the 50 cent binder deal, I highly recommend not changing that. On another note, would you consider a back-to-school sale?

x. Chyunyen – I’ll definitely take that into consideration, and especially in the first week, we’ll run sales to generate publicity.

xi. Garcia – Would you consider having tutorials?xii. Chyunyen – We can definitely collaborate. We’ve also been trying to get

collaborations with Experimental College, and getting in contact with Crafts Center. Unfortunately, this has kind of died down the last few quarters because the entire admin staff has changed, and because workers are just busy and couldn’t keep in touch.

Page 7: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

xiii. Hill – I just wanted to congratulate you for being one of the highest revenue-generating units. You guys are doing a great job, keep it up.

C. HAUSa. Liu – We hosted a big event this quarter, Housing Day. We successfully finished this

event. Right now, we are planning on making some records about promoting Housing Day and making it better.

i. Hill – How is PR going, how are you reaching students to let them know about what you offer, and how is contacting department directors going?

ii. Liu – One critical part is to make invitation letters and reserve them space.iii. Hill – Senators, HAUS has been having trouble getting students to their

event. If people on the table want to flex their social media muscles, it will be better for HAUS and ASUCD as a whole.

iv. Bach – Is your next event just next year’s Housing Day? v. Liu – Yes.

vi. Rivilis – Any ideas or suggestions for things in between Housing Days?vii. Liu – We hosted a feedback meeting here, and we got suggestions from all

the housing complexes. Next year we’ll definitely start planning a lot earlier. viii. Garcia – I do hope that Housing Day starts a little earlier, so that apartment

complexes can get feedback from their current residents. ix. Liu – We’ve talked about this with all the apartment complex managers, and

we’re planning on moving it earlier, such as second week of January, when people haven’t signed leases and don’t have midterms.

x. Bach – Since the next event is next year, you should invite him back next year in fall quarter to brainstorm.

xi. Tresh – With only one event all year long, I would assume you have time to work on other projects. Have you guys considered a sort of website?

xii. Liu – Yes, we’re trying to make Housing Day a brand. Making a Facebook page, getting on social media.

xiii. Kapur – Do you have your assistant positions hired?xiv. Liu – Yes, assistants. Just one assistant. xv. Kapur – The last Unit Director graduated after 3 years of doing really well,

and this guy got hired after. So this is just one of those things to work on.xvi. Liu – Yes, and we’re working on making a record for future Unit Directors.

V. Committee Reports – 12:37A. Rivilis – INC voted on bill you saw tonight, brought up an agenda item of looking into

investigating accessibility of ASUCD website. URSAC, agenda items for space for expanding Aggie ReUse, SHIP renewed UC SHIP, Academic Senate Committee voted on changing GE requirements for language courses.

B. Kapur – I sit on two PACs. They’ve decided to meet next week during finals, no one responded to emails for changing the times. If you’re on committees planning on meeting during finals, tell them that’s not cool. Katehi has office hours in CoHo.

C. Lee – Student Org Special Committee, chair resigned. Talk to me to re-brainstorm.D. Nguyen – There’s going to be a student subcommittee for campus community review team.

CCRT has been restructured because of changes to sexual assault task force.

Page 8: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

VI. PresentationsA. Reem Fatayerji – 6:22

a. Reem – Racially insensitive event. I understand I perpetuated harmful stereotypes. I did not intend to participate in an event that is harmful to others. It was unacceptable to exploit such costumes. Speaking as an ASUCD senator and a student, I have failed as a role model.

B. Farewell Comments – 6:26a. Nathan Bentham – IAC chairman. I recently got a job promotion that bars me from

doing this next quarter. I’ve been in ASUCD for almost two years now. The one word that sums up my experience here is “family.” The IAC was my first group of friends. People like Spencer, Gareth, Jemma, Jeremy, Francisco… those are the people who eased me into college. This experience has been the most challenging of my college career. I want to thank everyone on the table currently for being so patient with me this quarter. I have a lot of respect for any student who is a student senator. It’s a massive job. Specific thank you’s: Spencer McMan, Gareth Smythe, Abire Sabbagh, Nilofer Chollompat, Liam, Ryan, Mariah, Armando, Max, Kabir Kapur, Janesh, and biggest thanks goes to my commission and everyone who has served on IAC. Thank you all so much.

b. Robyn Hueyc. Amelia Helland – I’m very thankful for having been able to meet all of you people.

Each person I’ve interacted has inspired me. Partik, my chief of staff, I’m very grateful to have worked with him this year. Kabir, thank you for teaching me and being understanding when I’m not necessarily at my full potential at my productivity. Josh, you’re the most understanding and caring person, thank you for being consistently supportive. Gareth, you’ve been inspiring with all you’ve accomplished in your term as senator. Same with Janesh and Mariah. This whole experience has taught me how to be mature, understanding, collaborative, well-spoken. I’ve had to get over a lot of insecurities and demand respect from people. I have really struggled with feeling like I can be in a space and be a productive in member in that space. Ivon, you’re such an angel, you’re really wonderful and you do so much. Allan, you’re super cool, I wish I saw you more at the table this quarter. Lauren, you’re such a boss, you and OA are very impressive. Artem and Roman, you two are great… everyone is great. Eugenia, it was so fun running with you. Thank you to my campaigners. Johnathan Mitchell, I’d like to thank him because he provided me with motivational words. Azka for being emotionally supportive. You too, Reem. Thank you.

d. Eugenia Chungi. It’s so surreal standing here. I remember my first meeting coming here

as senate recorder. A lot of people tell me, “Is it hard recording?” I remember telling them, “It’s not too bad. It’s interesting.” No normal students know about it. I wanted people to get involved. That’s why I decided to run. I remember telling Janesh that I didn’t see myself running for senate, but that everyone should get involved. My friend Andrea told me to get in touch with Azka, but I asked Armando first. He

Page 9: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

was really encouraging. Ryan reached me first. It’s so surreal being here. It was such a struggle for me. I’m not good at public speaking, I’m not involved with politics; I never thought I would be here. I have so many people to thank for it. I learned so much about myself, and so much about mental health. That’s my advice to everyone here: you need to take care of yourself first, because how will you represent others unless you do that? I want to thank Chi Omega, they ruthlessly campaigned for me. Ryan, Smedha, Amelia, Anthony, Sergio, Arya… thank you for pushing me and making me wake up early to flyer. Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, who’s not here right now. Thank you Mariah and Gareth for your passion and how eloquent you two were, and how you got shit done without being oppressive. Ivon, you’re so sweet and so passionate, thanks for all the work you put into GASC and ASUCD. Allan, sitting next to you is fun, you always brighten up Senate meetings for me. Lauren, I’ve known you since freshman year, we’re in all the same extracurricular activities. Thank you for always talking to me and encouraging me, and for working so hard. Marissa, you work so hard and you have such a good vision. Andrea, I don’t know you too well, but the few time I’ve talked to you, you were really sweet and I just encourage you talk more at the table. Anabiah, thank you for all your support, during divestment I was so scared and you passed me a note to reassure me. Artem, I met you at ASUC formal, I never thought I would work here with you behind a table. Thank you so much for all the advice you gave me. Roman, thank you for all your hard work, you have a great vision for ASUCD, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Robyn, I remember when we were campaigning you’d always check in make sure I was doing okay. Casey, thanks for all your hard work and passion, I can see it radiating off you. We should hang out more. Alex, I met you because one of my interns really wanted boba in the CoHo. It’s been fun working and gossiping with you, you have a strong vision too, I encourage you to stick with it. Amelia, it was really fun running with you, I really appreciate your positivity. Reem, I like how outspoken and strong you are, and how you’ll stick to your guns. Nick, I look forward to all our rides home together, it’s good talking to you one on one and getting to know you. You really educated me about social and political issues. Azka, I didn’t get to talk to you too much one-on-one, but I appreciate all your passion and dedication to the association and your community. Joanna, thank you for all your work in B&F. I love how you care about other bills not just related to B&F. Nilofer, you’re just hilarious and I love you for that. Abire’s not here, but I want to tahnk her for always being so elegant and keeping her cool. Tori, my little, thank you for understanding why I’m always so MIA. Steven, you’ve known me since high school, thank you for always giving me sound advice and always

Page 10: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

being there. Kabir, thank you for never yelling at me. I was so scared that I wasn’t good enough, that I wouldn’t live up to your expectations. Thank you for not giving too much crap, and thank you for being there for institutional knowledge. I submit.

e. Artem Senchev – f. Nicholaz Sanchez – The first thing I want to start off with is where I come from. I’m

from Stockton, which is not a great place. I’m glad I got to become a senator. I have a couple thank you’s for those from Stockton. Those people are the ones who made me think beyond Stockton and inspire me. They told me to get higher education, and to come back. I’m thankful for this learning opportunity to take back to Stockton. When I ran for Senate, I didn’t know what I was getting into. There’s so much responsibility. When people say they want to be senators, I tell them to really think about what they’re saying. There are things I still want to do that I didn’t accomplish. I have a lot of regret in not doing more that I wish I could have. For you upcoming senators, really understand what you’re getting yourself into. ASUCD, I’m sad to say, I had a lot more bad memories than good. This is a good experience for the real world. There’s been a lot of bad and good times. I’m so thankful for this experience. Everyone in ASUCD is so hardworking. It’s inspiring to see some of you do your work. No one appreciates you. You don’t hear it enough, but I really want to say that I appreciate all the work you do. It’s a tremendous learning experience. I want to give shout-outs to those who helped me with campaign. I want to thank Michelle, she’s such a great person. I really appreciate what a great person you are, you do such amazing work. I want to thank Sergio, thank you so much for helping me out with my campaign. Saleena, you’re a homie, thanks for coming. Criti, Mariah, EOP. Shout-outs to all you senators and chairs. Segun, Brandon, Maricio, these 3 were some of the first best friends I ever had in Davis. I hope I made the campus a better place for you all. Five people I wanted to thank personally: Melissa, my girlfriend, she helped me with my campaign. You’re the sweetest person I’ve ever known. I really appreciate you, I’m so glad you’re in my life. Sabrina, my sister, if you know either me or her, I love my sister so much. She’s one of my best friends. We’ve done everything together, we’ve experienced the same things together. She’s one of the most amazing people I know, I’m so proud of you. Armando, thanks for coming. He’s my mentor, he’s such an amazing person. Truly inspiring. I feel like the reason I was meant to go to Davis was to meet Armando. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without you. You’ll be a lifelong friend. Azka, you’re one of the most inspiring people I know. She does so much work. You’re so humble. You’re such a good senator, you’re such a good person. I’m so happy we were in senate together. I’m so glad I met you. Lastly, my dad. My dad is an amazing person. I wouldn’t be here without him. He’s the most selfless person I have ever met. He did so much for me and my sister, he sacrificed so much. I’m so appreciative that you’re my father. We struggled so much in Stockton. He always pushed me to think differently. You mean so much to me, you are the rock of my life. I hope I made you proud. He’s so smart, and so selfless, and so amazing. If I could be half the person you are when I’m 40, I’d be happy. Thank you so much.

g. Azka Fayyaz – VII. Public Announcements

A. Lee – Fall quarter senators, meeting with Chancellor.B. Tresh – Next Thursday, Arab student union fundraiser. Frozen yogurt. Funds going to

banquet. C. Guerrero – Acapella performance, No Strings Attached.D. Lee – Davis Filmmaking Society appsE. Nguyen – Communication with Brett about online education tools. F. Garcia – Scholarship nominations, was nominated for a woman scholarship. No clear system

to tell them I’m not a “she.” If anyone wants to have a discussion with me and scholarship officials about pronouns, gender identification, email me, we can start having those discussions. If you happen to find anything else that should be gender neutral, let me know.

G. Kapur – I’ve had a pretty up-and-down relationship with ASUCD. I want to be a resource for you all, I want to help you all out. I don’t do this for my own personal/mental health, but take care of those, and eat, and make sure your president eats. Art Museum opening ceremony tomorrow at 2 pm. Regents are meeting over spring break. And if you aren’t following our basketball team, you should be.

VIII. Status of Legislation Previously Passed – 12:41A. Everything Passed

IX. Introduction of New Legislation – 11:25a. Resolution to reaffirm ASUCD’s commitment to the Stride for Aggie Pride 5k. b. Bill to create hiring procedures for Recorder and SGAOc. Bill to reallocate $3731 from unused stipends originally allocated for the ASUCD

Office of Advocacy and Representation into ASUCD Advocacy Special Projects and Transportation, allocating $3410 into Special Projects and #321 from unused stipends into Transportation

X. Consideration of Old Legislation – 10:42A. SB #60 – Watson

a. Huey – This is to renew RACC, turn it into a permanent committee.b. Commission Recommendation

i. IAC – unchanged from last year. Liked it, bringing student awareness. No reason not to pass it.

c. Questions in Textd. Public Discussion

i. Rivilis – What has this committee done to deserve being permanent?ii. Huey – Lots of building relationships to get students onto renovations

projects. Also got on social media to promote awareness on renovations and projects going around on campus. Right now, the issue with RACC is that they’re communicating to get more access and John Campbell says they’re moving too fast. Working with Janice to figure that out.

iii. Rivilis – The problem is that you’re working with John Campbell and he’s an admin that doesn’t want students to get involved so many things in a short

Page 12: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

amount of time. My recommendation would be to reach out to others. Want to see more conversation on what this committee would look like in the future.

iv. Johnson – Was there a struggle prior about getting people onto this board?v. Kapur – This committee got established to encourage more students to get

on PACs. Not enough PACs being covered.vi. Fatayerji – Is there any way to promote this bill in the

landscape/architecture realm? This is an important bill to get students involved on.

vii. Huey – Chair is landscape/architecture department. Some students are double-majors. A lot of students don’t want to be involved with ASUCD. Did talk to Land-planning Coordinator about RAAC. But students are talking about it.

e. Senate Discussionf. Call to Questiong. Passed

B. SB #56 – Leea. Lee – Spending bill to allocate more money to AggieTV for post-production. b. Commission Recommendation

i. B&F – This bill is one of the very few spending bills. I stand by spending money to make money. The equipment asked for is necessary. Alex Park advocates this purchase and he will be there to make damn sure that this makes a profit.

c. Question in Textd. Public Discussion

i. Rivilis – Alex Park doesn’t always pass everything through INC. They’ve been taking hand-me-downs, they need the best equipment they can have to generate income. This has my unequivocal support as well.

ii. Tresh – Wondering where 599.88 number came from. iii. AggieTV – Total of monthly cost.iv. Tresh – Monitors?v. AggieTV – List actual price, not purchasing price.

vi. Kapur – It says all money unused will be returned to capital reserves. vii. Johnson – How much does AggieTV bring in?

viii. AggieTV – 4 grand a year, in the middle of restructure right now. Been primarily focusing on content, want to focus on clients. Hoping to triple what we’re making now next year with the new structure.

ix. Johnson – Dual screens?x. AggieTV – Monitors are for two hand-me-down towers.

xi. Julian – Quick comment on price: this is the absolute maximum, but realistically, there will be discounts.

xii. Hill – AggieTV is not a revenue-generating unit, but it’s a great step forward towards that. There’s going to be a lot of discounts, this is just to safeguard their purchasing. In the middle of restructuring, putting it under Creative

Media, more oversight. We should see a lot of revenue generation from this purchase.

xiii. Kapur – Does AggieTV have an equipment reserve?xiv. Hill – We have a line item, less than this budget.xv. Kapur – Does Creative Media have an equipment reserve?

xvi. Hill – Yesxvii. Kapur – If there’s a more relevant reserve account to take money from, you

can look into that later. e. Senate Discussionf. Divide the House

C. SB #48 – Hellanda. Rivilis – Same vein, making a special committee permanent. Only change is the

ii. GASC – Passed, no problem, just a couple changes. iii. IAC – We thought this should be a permanent committee. Everyone voted

A. Volunteer Staff for Senatorsa. Nahabedian – Creating a web around ASUCD, more people being involved with

ASUCD. The timing of the bill is a good opportunity to talk. Experiences about staff, having a good staff will benefit both new senators and be a good opportunity for undergrads to get involved.

Page 18: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

b. Ashe – People are really interested in being on Senate staff. I just echo what Sevan said, encourage all of you into getting a staff.

c. Velazquez – This is for making it a requirement?d. Nahabedian – No, just to encourage people who don’t have a staff to look into idea

of having one. e. Rivilis – So you said you introduced the bill last week, what happened to it?f. Nahabedian – Went to IAC, withdrew it because we’re not sure whether we’re

allowed to mandate volunteers. IAC divided the house on the principle of having a staff, were in favor. But I’m just trying to highlight the importance of having a Senate staff.

g. Rivilis – Staff was how I got into Senate. It’s good publicity too. If you know how to market it

h. Fatayerji – I’m incredibly impressed with you Sevan. Some old ASUCD people were just emphasizing how important it was because it creates lineage. It gets people intrigued about Senate. As Lauren said, people are interested in Senate stuff. And it looks fancy on a resume. I’m glad you’re not advocating for it to be required.

i. Garcia – Is there anything in the bylaws saying anything about senator staff?j. Rivilis – No, absolutely not. That’s what the bill was supposed to do.k. Garcia – Is there anything stopping the senator from just ordering them to get

doughnuts? Any protection for volunteers?l. Rivilis – No.m. Lee – In the bylaws, nothing exists about volunteers. n. Garcia – In commissions, we at least have a mission statement to base volunteers

on.o. Guerrero – Suggestions of different types of staff?p. Nahabedian – Noq. Nguyen – Leaving it open allows senators to create a relationship with their staff. r. Kapur – Just for advice, I don’t think it should be required. I got involved through

staff. Just a word for advice: a great way to get people on staff is to open it up apps all summer, grab people at orientation.

s. Lee – I’m planning to get them while they’re fresh. If you’re looking for staff in fall, you should look over the summer when freshmen are looking for opportunities.

t. Sandhu – Talking about it at IAC. I was invited to Alex Lee’s staff meeting a week ago. It was well-handled, and it was really good the way he ran it. You have more ideas that way, more people around you.

u. Kapur – Don’t make meetings Friday afternoon, or Mon morning 8 am. Also, have them come to Senate.

v. Syed – If you treat your staff like shit, they’re going to quit. Also, it’s a good way to hold yourself accountable for your platforms. I think that we’re all in agreement that having a staff is great.

w. Garcia – Wanted to quickly state: you’re hiring these people and they’re going to be young. You should really take some time to think about what you’re going to ask during interviews, and how to facilitate a meeting so that everyone feels comfortable and safe.

Page 19: asucd. Web viewThe one word that sums up my experience ... Telling me to stick with my guts and stick with what I believe in. Same goes for Katie, ... Quick comment on price:

B. Lisa Watson – Wanted to take a moment to acknowledge this body. There’s a tendency to imagine that you’re just managing the student body here at UCD, but what you do influences all of us. Tonight, members of Mariah’s community wanted to acknowledge her. The first presentation is a certificate of special Congressional honor. The second is from the State of California; a certificate of acknowledgement, Mariah K. Watson is the first African American female ASUCD president. Mariah served as an intern for LA county. Here is a commendation in recognition of dedicated service to affairs of community. Thank you all for your love, know that you are supported in all you do.

C. Fatayerji – Many of you are very new. You hold your own opinions. If you feel like your vote does not reflect your constituents, don’t vote on it. If you only vote by how your friends are voting, that is not good for the administration. I want the new senators to engage in the thought that just because the people you got elected with are voting a certain way, you don’t have to vote with them. I hope that sinks in with you guys, because we have a very at-risk association. I really encourage how you feel is most important.
