Welcome to KLM Orkest, Band of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines

KLM Orkest is the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines orchestra for more than 60 years. We havea wide repertoire, which we adapt to the occasion and audience, and perform manytimes a year both at home and abroad. The orchestra, which is led by Jan Schut andconsists of many highly experienced amateur musicians, has had an enthusiastic publicand received glowing reviews throughout its history.

ConcertsWe compile a special program from our wide repertoire for each audience. Famous and

less familiar melodies from a range of genres – light classical, film, modern, pop and jazz – are arranged exclusively for us and are performed with great enthusiasm.We also give an annual concert for KLM relations at a concert hall in the Amsterdamarea. Assisted by famous Dutch musicians the orchestra puts on a fabulousperformance. Over the last few years we have had the pleasure of working with a largenumber of artists, all well known in The Netherlands and abroad.

ConductorJan Schut, the musical director of the orchestra and a versatile musician, is aprofessional and experienced conductor. He teaches conducting Concert and BrassBands at the Conservatory of Music in Amsterdam and ensemble conducting at theConservatory of Music in Alkmaar. He conducts several orchestras, directs musicalproductions, and has produced a number of radio programs and documentaries. JanSchut is extremely active in the world of wind music as a freelance trumpet player,conductor, jury member and examiner.

MusiciansThe Band of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines consists of 50 enthusiastic, committed, andexperienced musicians, all of whom have strong links to KLM, KLM affiliated airlines,and Schiphol Airport. We have been giving concerts of high musical quality with JanSchut for many years, both in the Netherlands and abroad, including Germany, UnitedStates of America, Hungary, South Africa and Canada.

The Sultan Alam Shah Wind Orchestra 

The Sultan Alam Shah wind Orchestra was formed as a full symphonic wind ensemblein 1996. Since then the band has begin to establish its reputation as one of the leadingwind orchestras in the country performing in Royal Concerts, special appearances ininternational conferences including performance in Korea at the Jeju Band Festival in2001. The ASWO has emerged as National Champions in the National Wind OrchestraFestival for 7 years and has clinched gold award at the same festival in 2002,2001,2003,2005,2006, 2007,2010,2011 & 2012.

ConcertsThe ASWO is actively invited to corporate functions and Royal Gala performances. TheASWO has recently performed a successful Royal Concert at the Dewan FilharmonikPetronas on the 22nd April 2013 under the patronage of HM The Sultan of Selangorunder the baton of its Music Director & resident Conductor Casey Koh and assisted byAssociate Conductor Alfa. The ASWO perform a wide repertoire from various Japanesecomposers and arrangers and plays a number of Broadway Musical repertoire. The hasalso performed in Bangkok at the Horwang School and Kasetsart University. The ASWOwill tour to Singapore this 20th May 2013 till 23rd May 2013 with another concert programalong side with the Hwa Chong Institution Band.

Music Director & Resident ConductorCasey Koh served in the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra before his relocation back toMalaysia where he is now the Executive Producer and Managing Director of Malaysia'sleading musical theater company Broadway Academy. Casey is an active performer

performing in vocal recitals as a Broadway vocalist and adjudicator of symphonic windorchestral and theatrical works. Casey had conducted the ASWO since 2006 till now. Asan educator, Casey has held teaching, conducting and lecturing positions at theUniversity of Malaya, UCSI and UiTM as well as several other institutions. Caseymaintains a very tight schedule with the ASWO and travels for performanceengagements.

Associate Conductor & Brass TutorAlfa is an acclaimed Trumpeter in the wind orchestra scene in Kuala Lumpur. He hasperformed in various orchestras including the UMSO, National Youth SymphonyOrchestra and is now recently appointed as Orchestra Manager at the BroadwayAcademy. Alfa is currently completing his Doctoral Degree in Bio-Chemistry.

MusiciansThe musicians from the ASWO are made up entirely of students of the Sultan Alam

Shah Secondary School. The musicians join the wind orchestra in their form 1 at the ageof 13 and stay throughout till their final year in their form 5. All musicians come from azero musical background and are trained solely by the tutors of the ASWO.

Guest ConductorMaestro Joost Flach is a professional musican with the Malaysian PhilharmonicOrchestra. Through friendship with the Music Director of the band, Maestro Joost Flachis a well loved guest conductor of the band. Joost Flach is also the founder of the MPOEncounter High Winds. He is very highly appraised by many concert bands andensembles in Malaysia. Maestro Joost Flach has performed all over Southeast Asia andis very much involved in helping young musicians and also musical projects to realizeand flourish. The ASWO would like to extend a special thanks to Maestro Joost for hislove to our wind orchestra.
