Legend tells the story of the beautiful lunar goddess, Chang’e,who was forced to take in the elixir of immortality
and flew into the moon for refuge.
When her husband Yi discovered what happened, he felt sad.So he displayed the fruits and cakes that Chang’e likes
and offered to her. The people who were sympathetic to Chang’esoon began participating in Yi’s activities.
This tradition was honored by great emperorsand passed down to this day with a festive gatheringof thanksgiving, praying and giving of mooncakes,
signifying completeness and unity of families.
