RIZZO Center lies where a country estate
greets a modern conference center and idyllic hilltops
merge with a stylish hotel. Where Southern hospitality
and a commitment to education thrive just minutes
from the main campus of The University of North Carolina
and Chapel Hill’s quaint, yet vibrant downtown.

Rizzo Center is located on the
property of The DuBose Home
& Gardens, a rural country estate
built in the 1930s. At this historic
site, UNC’s Kenan-Flagler
Business School established a
residential conference center
for world-class executive
leadership development.
Comfort, technology and amenity
upgrades make it a welcoming
place of rediscovery–of the joy of
life, the joy of learning and a sense
of Southern hospitality.

The property’s history
dates back to the 1750’s when
Virginian William Barbee
received two land grants
in North Carolina’s Chapel
Hill-Durham area, where Rizzo
Center now resides. Barbee’s son,
Christopher, was still working
a plantation on this hilltop
in 1789, the same year George
Washington became the first
U.S. President, and the year
The University of North
Carolina received its charter
as the nation’s first public
university. In 1791 it was the
younger Barbee himself
who deeded 221 acres to
UNC trustees, acreage which
became the heart of
The University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill.

a contemporary three story building set along the
property’s edge. Perched on the hill, all 183 casually
elegant rooms and suites feature distinct spaces for
study and relaxation. All include 24 hour access to
guest pantries stocked with complimentary snacks,
frozen treats and beverages, coffee and tea stations
and commercial grade laundry machines.
Sleek new interiors and high-tech flourishes—including
data ports, Wi-Fi, and TVs with laptop access—provide
guests with creature comforts designed to enhance focus.
Property amenities include a pool complex and
spacious courtyard, outdoor lounge areas with fire
pit and a 2,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art fitness center,
all designed to make the Rizzo Center experience
sophisticated and productive.
The historic DuBose House across the courtyard offers
a striking juxtaposition between modern amenities
and the buildings stately, historic presence. A few
select suites are open to guests, where one can harken
back to a different era without giving up high-count
cotton sheets and high-speed Internet. It’s the very
definition of the “best of both worlds.”
