the tank, therefore, if the equipment is on the tank then

it is within our normal scope of supply – we are a supply

only company and do not take on site installation work.

Ateco Aluminum Geodesic Dome Roof

• the Ateco Dome Roof is manufactured from aluminum

which is one of the world’s most commonly used

metals

• its lightness, coupled with its strength and excellent

corrosion resistance are the main reasons for it being

used in the design of the Ateco Dome Roof

• there are three main component parts in any Dome –

Extruded Profiles, Nodes Points and Panel Sheets

• the Ateco Dome Roof can be used on tanks used to

store most products

Aluminium Geodesic Dome Roof

• the Ateco Dome Roof is a system of triangular,

lightweight Extruded Profiles - each and every profile

acts in either in compressive and tensile mode to resist

loading

• the profiles are connected through Node Points

transmitting loads laterally to the Integral Tension ring

and then through Supports to the tank shell and tank

foundation

• the framework is covered with minimum 1.2 mm thick

aluminum alloy Panel Sheets

• each of the extruded profiles and therefore each of the

triangles can be of different lengths

SLIDING SUPPORT – Free Vented SLIDING SUPPORT –Vapour Tight

FIXED SUPPORT – Free Vented FIXED SUPPORT –Vapour Tight

• the Ateco Dome Roof is an all bolted structure and no welding is required at site for its

assembly and erection

• the Ateco Dome Roof fully complies with the requirements of API 650 Appendix G

• any equipment that you have on a conventional steel tank roof can be fitted on the Ateco

Dome Roof

• The applied loads (up to 500 lbs/sqft) and taken into consideration in the design of the

Ateco Dome Roof consist of: live load, dead load, wind load (up to 175 mph) and seismic

factors

• The Ateco Dome Roof is normally fitted on a “free vented” tank however if required we

can fit a vapour tight dome roof

The Ateco Dome Roof standard design is offered with the

• The Ateco Dome Roof can be

designed to support an aluminum

internal floating roof – suspended

IFR.

• The Ateco Dome Roof is normally

designed with a maximum radius

equal to 1.2 times the tank diameter

and the minimum is 0.7 times the

tank diameter, this equates to the

ratio of dome height to tank

diameter of about 1:6

• 30,000 mm diameter tank – dome

height is approximately 5,000 mm

The Ateco Dome Roof can be assembled inside the tank and lifted into its final position

using either a crane or a system of pulley blocks

Ateco can supply all the necessary assembly and erection equipment and tools or provide

details if customer wishes to source locally

If using the “jacking method” to erect the tank, the Ateco Dome Roof is fitted on the top

course and jacked up with the shell

MAIN ADVANTAGES OF ATECO ALUMINUM GEODESIC DOME

ROOF

• Ateco Dome Roof is a self-supporting structure - internal roof supports are not required

• Ateco Dome Roof lightweight construction means that when fitting on an existing external

floating roof tank - it is not necessary to reinforce the tank shell

• Ateco Dome Roof is fitted with an Integral Tension Ring to avoid any additional stiffening

requirement of the tank shell

• Ateco Dome Roof does not require painting, EVER - in this respect it can be considered

as maintenance free for the entire lifetime of the tank

Inspection and Supervision Services

Ateco has qualified and experience engineers who can support the installation of all Ateco

tank equipment on site, we also offer Inspection Services to give advice on the operation,

suitability, maintenance, repair or replacement of all Ateco supplied tank equipment.

Ateco Dome Roof Quotation

The Ateco Dome Roof is normally supplied on the basis of the

Ateco Standard Terms and Conditions for the Preparation of a Quotation

for Goods.

The Ateco Dome Roof is supplied to ex works Turkey and

packed in sea going containers.

Typically Delivery to ex works for an Ateco Dome Roof; 30,000

mm (100 ft.) nominal diameter tank is in the order of 14 weeks.

A breakdown of the Delivery is as follows:

Prepare Detail Engineering Drawings: 5 weeks

Manufacture : 7 weeks

Final Inspection and Packing: 2 weeks

Total: 14 weeks to ex works from acceptance of Purchase

Order.

A 30,000 mm (100 ft.) Ateco Dome Roof with standard

accessories should be shipped in 1 No x 40 ft. container

Ateco Dome Roof Quotation

Technical Details:

Typically 30,000 mm (100 ft) Ateco Dome Roof, with standard accessories has an installed weight of

9,500 kg (approx. 10 Tons)

The Number of Sliding Supports would be 28 No.

Load transferred through each Sliding Support (Dead Load + Live Load) to tank shell is 28.3 kN

Assembly and Erection:

5 skilled skilled labour x 10 hours per day x 6 days a week x 4 weeks: approximately 1200 Man-hours.

Ateco recommend complete assembly and installation by a competent tank contractor and if not

familiar with the Ateco Dome Roof they should retain the services of an Ateco Supervisor.

Geodesic – means the shortest line between two

points on a curved surface.

The complex design of the dome structure is carried

out using the latest finite element method (FEM). The

propriety software used by Ateco enables us to

maximize the domes structural strength, minimize

the number of different beam lengths and by

optimizing the panel size Ateco has developed a

dome with the minimum number of rings

The Astrodome in Houston is 200 meters
