Jonnee’s accomplishments have the same genesis—caring for people. Her numerous professional awards are a reflection of the caring she has for clients. But she feels it is the activities within the Wausau community, including committee work and fundraising activities, which have the most impact. The funds she helps raise for Susan G. Komen benefiting women are significant. Personally, she offers help and guidance to many others anytime she can. Through involvement in Dale Carnegie courses, she is an official and unofficial mentor to many. Best of all, she’s recognized as a resource and friend to all.

Jonnee’s experience as a leader began when she was mentoring students with disabilities while still in school. This talent grew as she worked with numerous students with varying goals at Dale Carnegie. Today, mentoring is an on-going activity as young women continu-

ally approach Jonnee and ask advice on starting a business. Jonnee is a strong believer of facing challenges and working hard to not only succeed, but to make it a habit. As a young mother, she wanted her daughter, Michelle, to experience a more complete and supportive upbringing than what she experienced. So it was essential for her to focus on positive changes for herself, her family, and the Wausau Community.

Over her 34-year career, Suzanne has been proud to carry on a four generation, family tradition since 1939. The tradition of educating others through social security, empowering women, and other free educational workshops as well as the Financially Tuned radio program, help her to give back through knowledge. She also hosts charity events, provides sponsorships, and makes donations to support the Wausau region. She is honored to be a finalist for the 2014 ATHENA Leadership Award®.

Mentoring and being a resource for other women has been something that is very important to Suzanne. During her career, she has been fortunate to work with and have many women work on her team. She has had the honor of being selected as one of the five finalists for the Senior Market Advisor of the Year. Winning this award has given her

the opportunity to speak with women all over the country and share her experiences that have helped her succeed in a male-dominated industry. Suzanne feels strongly that if someone has the drive to advance their career that they should go for it. She discovered that supporting them in furthering their education shows them that someone cares—and sometimes that is exactly what they need to succeed.

Tee arrived in America in 1975 as a frightened 11 year old with nothing but the clothes on her back. With the encouragement of her loving family, she embraced the opportunities of the United States. Today she is a proud wife and mother of three daughters and the owner of Basil Restaurant. She has found support and inspiration in the Wausau region and she gives back in any way she can. Tee feels it is an honor to be a finalist for the ATHENA Leadership Award®.

When Tee became successful in the real estate business, she mentored a number of young women who were aspiring to do the same. She was always available for advice and helped them obtain their real estate license. As a volunteer at The Neighbor’s Place, she has become a role model for many young, minority girls who emulate her accomplishments. As a part of the YWCA, she helps empower young women in our

community. In addition, as a business owner, she has always taken interest in the female staff encouraging them to further their education and to make better life decisions.

“Failure is not an option.” Loreen has been committed to the community since moving here in 1999. She is a Special Agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice and conducts criminal investigations involving internet crimes against children and financial fraud. She is the owner of Vino Latte and recently opened her second location in Weston. Loreen is also the Board President for the YWCA, where she engages in empowering women. Her hobby is fitness, and she teaches classes on a regular basis.

Because Loreen has a full-time career, she employs a female manager and assistant manager at each of her two locations. Her goal for them is to work independently, confidently, and without supervision. In order to achieve this goal, she has established specific procedures, policies, and a mentoring program for all staff members. The structure enables them to make educated and informed decisions, even when new situations arise.

Being empowered helps improve their confidence, which is critical to success.

Brad Karger | Marathon County Government

Brad is a public servant with a passion for service and innovation. In his 26 years with Marathon County, he has opened doors to women leaders by shaping a culture that supports their selection, development, and retention. Brad is the CEO of Marathon County Government, an organization of 750 employees and a 120 million dollar budget. Because of his accomplishments, Marathon County is often a model for other local governments to follow. He knows that a vibrant business and helping community are important. Brad volunteers his time and talents to the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce and the United Way.

During his tenure with Marathon County, Brad has spearheaded several initiatives that made county government a workplace where women can both succeed and thrive. He has developed women leaders to fill key positions previously held by men. Brad can engage and inspire, promote

collaboration, build trust and talent, all of which has meant a lot to several of the female leaders within the organization. Rebecca Frisch is one of the many women who had positive remarks about Brad. She stated, “When Brad Karger hired me to be a department director, I considered myself a seasoned manager. What I didn’t realize was that Brad would inspire me to be innovative, take risks, to be a better, and more effective leader.”

Candy is Vice President/Private Bank Team Leader for Associated Bank, N.A. Candy feels fortunate to be in a position to mentor others to develop a financial understanding and ultimately financial independence. She volunteers with the AC Kiefer Parent Teacher Organization where her son attends school, serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Wausau, and the Marathon County Library Foundation. Candy is also an active volunteer with United Way Women in Action.

Developing, mentoring, and helping females advance in their lives and careers has long been a passion of Candy’s. She was fortunate enough to have strong female role models and mentors and felt the need to pay it forward. She is proud to be a driving force in launching Associated Bank’s first regional chapter of the Associated Women’s Network (AWN) in Central Wisconsin and is currently the Chair for this chapter. She is

also very proud to be a mentor to a young woman with whom she works. Candy is a sounding board and an encouragement to these women every step of the way.

Connie is a career-minded young professional driven by the desire to help people and make a difference in the community she was born and raised in. She has been in commercial lending for 13 years and worked her way up from Credit Analyst to Vice President in what is typically a male-dominated field. Her time is spent working full time, raising three kids, and volunteering her time to many different organizations.

Raised in Schofield, Katie Felch is proud to have the opportunity to give back to the community she grew up in through her position as the Director of Marketing + Public Relations at NTC and her volunteer commitments with the Relay for Life and the foundation of Saint Clare’s Hospital. As a working mom of three, Katie is proud to work with and mentor young women to achieve personal and professional success just as she has been mentored by the outstanding women leaders in her life.

As Associate Director of Community Impact with United Way, Deanna seeks to establish and support cross-sector community partnerships that work to improve lives of young children and at-risk youth in Marathon County. Deanna also serves on the Board of Leadership Wisconsin as Vice President, United Way’s Emerging Leaders’ Board and Volunteer Committee, is a mem-ber of the City of Wausau’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor Committee, and serves as President of the East Towne Neighborhood Group.

As Executive Director of Bridge Community Health Clinic, Laura Scudiere has been an outspoken advocate for the underserved, ensuring they have access to quality health and dental services. Laura is very active in the nonprofit community, participating on over eight local boards of organizations which aim at improving lives of those in need. In an effort to empower women to become healthier, she has started a monthly article/podcast with her cohorts, Carrie Hutton and the Wausau Daily Herald, called “Fit for Two.”

The foundation of Sara’s sales and marketing career has been helping businesses, organizations, and individuals achieve success. Through the development of sales and marketing initiatives and the implementation of community outreach projects, she has been able to witness the impact her work has done for others.
