FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Our school community in partnership One cannot but be invigorated and very proud of just what a special school we have. As I move around the school each week I see students strongly engaged in all kinds of activities. And how and why? Our teachers working closely with all kinds of thinking and support from our community. These pictures tell some of the stories.

• Dr Olivia Bell comes each week to lead the

development of some key scientific principles with Stage 3 students;

• Various parents come to join year 1 classes in

the construction of their new garden outside their classrooms; and

• The extraordinary work of Liz Scott and others in the exceptional dedication of over 50 students in the various string ensembles (14% of our students play strings).

Reviewing our school plan At last Wednesday’s professional learning afternoon all staff reviewed our school’s progress against our school plan milestones. Much rich discussion was had, together with celebration of just what we have achieved. From this, the new school plan (2018-2020) will evolve and it will also inform the external validation process we are participating in, this year.

I encourage all parents and carers to use this facility as it is far more secure and easier for all concerned, including our students, teaching and office staff. Thank you. Yours in partnership Graeme Ross, Principal GIRLS TACKLE FOOTBALL Gala Day

On Wednesday the 7th of June the 5/6 girls Rugby League team participated in the tackle football gala day at Coffs Harbour. This was a day just for girls. We had such a great day learning new skills, playing as a team and some fantastic tries scored. We had five games and out of those 5 we won 4. It was an amazingly fun day. We would also like to thank Mr harry for his amazing support all through the day, the parents who came and supported us and Jess for organising a very fun day for everyone. Written by Lanti, Alexa and Kyla.

PIE DRIVE PICK UP THIS WEEK!

If you ordered pies or lamingtons as part of the P and C’s pie drive, please remember the collection day is this Wednesday 21st June, 2017. Pies will be delivered to the school at 2.00pm and will be available for

collection between 3.00pm and 5.30pm from the school canteen. We will endeavour to box up larger orders but please bring a canvas bag or box if possible for orders of up to 5 pies. If children are collecting the pies please also ensure that they have a bag so that pies don’t get squashed in transit. Parent volunteers will try to ensure that all orders are given out as efficiently as possible. We hope you enjoy your pies. Many thanks to Urunga Bakery for being so helpful. For all further information please contact Elektra Macdonald on 0412 336 090. Thank you for your support!

Thank you for your support! SCRABBLE We would love some Scrabble games for the tutor program and games hub at school. If anyone has one that they are happy to donate we would really appreciate it. Thank you, Carole McFaul

CANTEEN NEWS In last week’s episode of enlightenment on the Healthy Canteens policy discussed one of the issues covering “occasional” foods. That is to say, the health star rating. This week ‘s scripture will continue with issues covering “occasional” foods. The commandments handed down on this policy contain the prohibition, paraphrased here as; Thou shalt not promote occasional foods, once the policy comes

into effect in term 4. Although these foods may still appear on the menu, none of the promotional activities or advertising made by the canteen can include any occasional foods. As this prestigious publication is one method used to promote canteen products, this ban will affect the material included herein. Since this policy will take effect in term 4, we still have all of term 3 to extoll the value and enjoyment of these occasional foods in this wonderful word-fest. The special this week will be Tamworth take-away style fish and chips, wrapped in butcher’s paper with lemon segment and tartare sauce. The special will be available on Thursday and Friday only for $4.00 or $5.00 with a drink. Feeding your children to a better education, Eddy Vardabasso, Canteen Supervisor
