NO SCHOOL for students
From the PrincipalWe have almost finished with ourfirst round of MAP testing! The studentshave worked so hard and our teachers have been ever so patient through this new process. On Thursday, October 24, the students will not be in school so the teachers can learn how to access and read the results. Pray for us!
Parents are reminded that, in the drop-off car line in the morning, students should exit the vehicle quickly from the passenger-side only. If you wish to stop the car and help your child out, please park in the parking lot by the white house. Stopping to help your child out while in the car line is not safe for you or for other drivers. Please, also, adhere to the 10 mph speed limit. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter as it is for all children’s safety!
This week, we are studying the virtue of Humility. As I have walked around, I’ve seen that our students say that humility sounds like:
• Not bragging• Letting other people talk• Gentle• Congratulations!
And, humility looks like:• Friends• Smiling when someone else gets a good grade• Taking the last place in line• Thanking God for all of the gifts He has given you
Ask your child what they think Humility sounds like and looks like!
Have a great week!

The Importance of Study Skills
Study skills are the skills you need to enable you to study and learn
efficiently. Study skills are the most important skills to master to get good
grades. Honing your study skills not only helps you succeed academically, it
will also help you do well in life. Without effective study skills you may
become overwhelmed and discouraged. The good news is that these skills can
be learned in a short time and applied to every grade level in every subject.
You have to be persistent at practicing and using these skills until they
become second nature to you.
Some of the benefits of improved study skills are reduced test anxiety,
increased confidence, competence, and self esteem.
Study skills lessons are incorporated throughout the year at Saint James
across the grade levels, however there are many ways you can work at home
with your child to improve their study skills. Remember this is a learned
skill, anyone can have good study skills!

Saint James School is a happening place. Let’s join hands to make it Rock!
The Knights of Columbus invite the dads of Saint James School students to an afternoon of fellowship, football, and fun on Sunday, October 20 from 1-4 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall at Saint James.
We will have the New York Giants – Arizona football game on our big screen TV and will serve hamburgers, hotdogs, sausage, salads, and soft drinks, wine and beer. We look forward to meeting with you for a collegial afternoon to both learn about the Knights of Columbus organization and to discuss ways in which the Knights of Columbus can enhance our support to Catholic education.
Can’t make it to our Sunday
football event? Join us at our
wine tasting event!
