TEAM UPDATES

Swimming (girls): Our depth is too much for Branson and San Rafael, though each team does have some very good swimmers. We ended up winning the meet, which is technically scored as two dual meets, 127-39 over Branson, and 129-35 over San Rafael. A few shout outs on this school night before we buckle down and get back to work! Maya Rabow for swimming through her poison oak and st ill scoring points for Tam. Sofia Hamner for coming off her concussion and swimming her first-ever 200 IM and placing third against Branson, and second against San Rafael! Alex Gershman for sweeping the 50 free and 100 fly! Jessica Bukowski for best ing her t ime in the 100 fly, dropping over a second and placing third! Avery Emison, from our pre-varsity team, for swimming under a minute in the 100 free for the first t ime in a 59.93. It was the fourth-fastest 100 free girls t ime of the day! Wow! Avery also went a 27.35 in the 50 for another best t ime! Lulu Johnson for chipping away at that best t ime in 100 free, dropping another 2 tenths of a second! And also for studding out and agreeing to swim the 200 IM! Grainne May with a best t ime in the 100 free! Nina Lawson swimming her first ever 500 free and making a 5:50 .56 for second place look easy! Emily Schauer, pre-varsity for going a best t ime in 100 back by a second! Izzy UT for AGAIN swimming a best t ime in the 100 breast with a 1:11.36 and only 1.7 seconds behind the first place finisher from Branson who is a super-experienced and Junior Nat ional-qualifying swimmer!

Swimming (boys): Tam beat both Branson and San Rafael. The score without including diving (neither Branson nor San Rafael have divers) was Tam 104 v Branson 42 and Tam 118 v San Rafael 34. Thanks to John Nolan, the meet ran smoothly with the help of our wonderful desk team of parents! Watching Will hunt down Branson in the anchor leg of the 400 free relay! Charlie?s first place in the 200 IM. Nicky, Dwight and Noah going 1, 2, and 3 in the 50 Free! Dwight, Will and Noah going 1 ,2 ,3 in the 100 Free! Ty?s 2:18 in the 200 IM. Will, Charlie and Chris going 1, 2, 3 in the 100 Breast. Our freshman squad is doing us proud and we are looking good as we head towards San Marin on the 29th.

Track & Field: As of Mar 11, Saturday about 40 or so of us trekked to beaut iful Mart inez for the Tim Bruder Relays, and we came home with a ridiculous amount of hardware. With almost no field event part icipants and a lot of the juniors off taking the SAT, the frosh/soph boys were the 2nd team overall, bringing home a big old trophy, and the frosh/soph

girls took 4th, just out of the big old trophy category, and would have trophied if the only half hour hard rain hadn't occurred right during the girls pole vault . Medals went 5 deep, so here's the list of medalist , going from bottom to top: 5th place: F/S Sprint Medley Sawyer Strain, Zach Weinfeld, Emmet Kneafsey, Caden Carney. VB Distance Medley Luke Owens, Jake Weisert , Coleman Morrow, Ethan Swergold. 4th place: VB 4x200 Lukas Affeltranger, Jon Garsson, Noah Whitaker, Aidan Nicholas. 3rd place: F/S 4x100 Jaime Nel, Zach Weinfeld, Sawyer Strain, Emmet Kneafsey. Baseball: 5-3, 2-1 in MCAL. Current ly the team is on a 3 game winning steak, the last of which was an 8-5 win over Redwood. Senior pitcher Bennett Flynn has been outstanding at the beginning of the year allowing just two hits over 18 innings, including a No-hit ter against Petaluma. Sophomore Tucker Bougie leads the team with 10RBI including a grand slam vs. San Rafael. There are a ton of others on the team that are having a great impact so far. TEAM UPDATES

COACH OPENINGS & GENERAL INFORMATION

Golf: We are off to a slow start this season. The rain has made it necessary to push back most of our matches into April. We?ve been pract icing a lot and gett ing ready for our remaining matches. So far we are 2-1. We placed 4th in the Wildcat Invitat ional on March 4th. We have a match against Branson at Mill Valley this Thursday. The team will be playing in the ?Champ? High School Golf Classic on March 25th at Silverado Resort and Spa. The next month should be excit ing as we have many matches to play.

Lacrosse (boys): The lacrosse team got off to a great start with wins over Lick Wilmerding, Rancho Cotat i and Bishop O?Dowd. We are playing a much more difficult schedule this season with several of the better East Bay team such as California High, Clayton Valley and Campolindo. They were all very competit ive games but in the end close losses. The teams record stands at 3-4 current ly with University and MC coming up this week. Overall, we are a young team that is gaining experience for a late season MCAL and NCS run. We are very excited about our upcoming spring break trip where we will play Coronado (#1 in San Diego) and Corona Del Mar (#1 in Orange County). Playing the best will help us prepare for the top teams in our sect ion. The lacrosse program cont inues to build momentum and the number of players increased for a third year in a row. Between JV and varsity we now have 50 players. We are very young with 40

freshmen and sophomores. Outside of lacrosse, the team has led two volunteer act ivit ies on campus. The first was a campus-wide clean up day where we had everyone spread out and cover the ent ire campus removing 10 trash bags of garbage. The second was a full cleaning with soap and water of the bleachers at the turf field. We have a third volunteer act ivity coming up this weekend where the team will part icipate in a MV Park Clean Up on Saturday. And now that the weather is finally better we will resume our Marin City lacrosse clinics each week.

Lacrosse (girls): The Tamalpais Varsity Girls Lacrosse team is off to a strong start with a record of 5-1 and building momentum. The team won its first five games of the season before losing a heartbreaker to local rival San Marin in a non-conference, pre-MCAL game 11-10 despite staging a great comeback after being down 7-2. Two part icularly strong performances came against a very good Menlo-Atherton team where Tam was able to win 14-11 on the road and a strong home win of 19-11 against a tradit ionally good Casa Grande team. As

we head into the middle of the season and MCAL play the team has its goals set on improving its performance week by week and making some significant noise as a challenger for the MCAL t it le and part icipat ion as a strong seed in the NCS.

Softball: MCAL season kicked off with a couple of heartbreakers. Tam lost a tough one to TL 2-0 with Olivia Page pitching a 7 inning beauty with 13 strikeouts. Then on Thursday Kassidy Stet ler was locked in a great pitchers duel with Marin Catholic, only to lose in extra innings 3-1. Tam quickly bounced back with a 13-1 victory over Novato on Monday. This years team is a great mix of experienced juniors and talented freshman. The defense is led by the dominant pitching of Kassidy Stet ler. The outfield is anchored by Junior Kaia Arvilla in center. Several freshman addit ions to the start ing lineup has helped secure the fielding behind Kassidy, highlighted by Jordan Lebsock as Kassidy?s battery mate behind the plate. Our offense has been led by Junior Sophia Piombo who has had mult iple hits in almost all our games, receiving support from sophomore Kleigh Carroll and freshman Kacea Stet ler. I would also like to welcome to the coaching staff all league catcher, Tam class of 2016, Elodie Townsend. She has been a valuable addit ion to our staff. With the mix of talent and experience we all have high expectat ions for this Tam Team. As the season progresses Tam will cont inue to become a force in the league.

Volleyball: Lots of great scoring vs San Marin and all of the players had fun. A sweep with the scores 25-16, 25-21, 25-16. Jack & Sammy both had 8 service points for the match. The highlight was seeing all of the team jumping up & down after Marco?s match ending kill. Great team work by everyone. - Vs Redwood, one of the strongest teams in MCAL as of right now (never an easy one to mention :)) , was the sweep went against us 14-25, 15-25, 23-25. Great determinat ion from all of our players in the last game. Kudos to David Hughes who was finally able to officially play in a match. The week ended with Tam host ing a Tournament. The team went 2-2 on the day and won the Bronze division. It was sat isfying to beat El Molino in the last match of the day, especially after losing against them last week !! Some great performances in the Tourney - Luke, Sammy, Holden & Devin led the team throughout the day with many kills each. Great job! Jack was stronger with his block every game. David set and improved with his sett ing each t ime on the court . Jesse, Jackson & Imran all three had their first official kills of the season. Ezra was finally able to play in the front row, which he has been asking, asking AND asking to do for months....

Tennis: At the midpoint of the season (leaving aside one makeup match scheduled for March 20th), Boys? Tennis sits at 6-1 league, 10-3 overall. When gathered together, it is the strongest group in many years, perhaps in the history of the Tamalpais Boys? Tennis program. The team is anchored by

#1 Ryan Ali, who will be attending Santa Clara University in the fall. Tam is currently second in MCAL to Redwood, which for the second straight year has a blockbuster group (Redwood won NCS in 2018). Playing shorthanded, the team came in 6th at the Logan tournament, and with everyone present, the team won its group at the California High School Tennis Championships, finishing tied for first. On March 19th, the first of three or more showdowns with Redwood occurred. This time around, Redwood won a hard-fought victory, 6-1; the match was much closer than the final score, with two matches going to third set supertiebreakers. The next matchup with Redwood will be on March 26th, at home, weather permitting.
