PROGRAM OBJECTIVESAt the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
y Discuss techniques and best practices for the following surgeries:
1. Oncoplastic surgery for the reconstruction of a breast following partial removal of the breast for breast cancer
2. Removal of older round breast implants and adjustment of the pocket in order to place new shaped breast implants
3. Breast lift or mastopexy
4. Breast reduction surgery
y Discuss breast reconstruction following breast cancer including oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction including tissue expanders, direct to implant reconstruction, latissimus flaps, TRAM flaps, microsurgical SIEA and DIEP Flaps, and nipple reconstruction.
y Assess current trends and techniques in fat grafting to the breast, use of acellular dermal matrix and new synthetic substitutes, and the use of shaped breast implants for breast augmentation and reconstruction.
y Evaluate a variety of techniques used in aesthetic breast surgery including breast reduction, mastopexy, augmentation, and prevention and correction of complications including rippling and capsular contracture.
