When you think of “Spring,” plenty things come to mind. Colorful clothes, nice weather, peep-toe shoes, sunny days, and the list goes on. When I think of Spring, I think of all the possible things that make me enjoy my daily journey in life. I think about the memories, people, mistakes, and things I want to leave in the winter, and the hopeful possibilities I want to embrace in the summer. Spring is a transitional sea-son for me. It’s about refreshing your mind, embracing change, and enjoying the rainy days while you are doing so. Just like any other day, life has it’s way of getting you to a place where you learn to understand the true meaning. Traveling to Atlanta for our Atlanta edition, I had a chance to meet several individuals using their gifts to give back to the universe their talents and their passion for their craft. It was then when I came alive, and furthermoreunderstood the very purpose of life. Not clothes, jewelry, but the sense of findingpeace in what you love, and utilizing it as a daily source and outlet to what you put into life. Through spiritual scriptures, re-laxing tips, dream seekers interviews, and exclusives on love, family, and life, our Atlanta Edition embraces finding dreams, pursing your well-being, and being en-tertained while you are doing so. And it doesn’t hurt to add fashion, lifestyle and entertainment to satisfy your daily taste buds. Enjoy!!!

With Love,

Sweet Tooth | Atlanta

Hello.. Ray, how are you? Fine, he answered, with a deep tone, laid-back, calmness in his voice. At that very mo-ment, we knew the 6 foot 5 Atlanta Falcons defensive end was ready for business. For those who have been living in a closet, Ray Edwards is more than a hot body, but a Big Ten graduate, father, football player, and most recently made Atlanta his home signing a five-year contract in 2011. Sixteen sacks, thirty-six games, and various honors racks up his statistics as a Purdue graduate. From there, Edwards traded in his college cleats,

for a more intense game. Drafted in 2006 Edwards quickly put an end to his rookie status, wowing fans in 2009 with a re-cording 8.5 sacks for the ending year. His strong performance as rookie status, post-season and his demanding hunger for the game left football fans intrigued to know more about this twenty-seven year old. Transitioning from the Minnesota Vi-kings to the Atlanta Falcons, Ray Edwards is set to make a name for himself in a new city, new game, with new players. There are many facets to Mr. Edwards, but one is for sure, although he is a new face in Atlanta, there is no denying that he is quite easy on the eye. Besides the handsome physique, we wanted to know what Mr. Edwards had mapped out for offseason, next season, and being a newbie in the “A”.

Tip!

Congratulations on your five- year contract to the Atlanta Falcons last year. Now in a new city, dif-ferent players, and new surroundings, what does this mean for Ray Edwards in terms of your career, your game, and your future? It just means a continuation of what I already set the foundation for. Being in a new city I have to let them know I am here, bring them a champion-ship, help in outreach programs and give young people motivation by letting them know that there are more things you can do in life besides playing sports.

What do you do to prepare for each game mentally? Study the opponent and the guy I am going to face and capitalize on their mistakes so ultimately my team can win the game. Would you say attending a big ten college prepared you for the NFL?I think it did because playing in the Big Ten is a run first mentality if you can’t stop the run you’re not ready. So it helped me a lot in preparing for the NFL.

As this season ends, the re-evaluating process begins. What can we expect differently from you next season? A whole different player. I’ll be 100% health wise, so that’ll contribute in making me a better player for next season.

8 Sweet Tooth Mag | April 12

Eye Candy: Ray EdwardsAs we are preparing for offseason, tell us some of your offseason plans Boxing in June. I also plan on working on my game for next season, I’m hooking up with a track coach whose helping me work faster on my twist burst off the line to attack my opponent quarterback faster.

Speaking of boxing, gives us a little insight about your hobby for boxing during the offseason. Boxing isn’t a hobby, it’s actually another sport for me. I travel and train at different gyms, I also do spar-ring. I put a lot of time and training into boxing.

What’s this we hear about you launching a t-shirt line?Hopefully in June, it’s a t-shirt line about inspirational sayings and quotes that brings a smile to people’s faces. It helps you to become a better person. The name True Ink, is a collaboration of sayings that helped me become the man I am today.

Tell us about your foundation. It is for underprivileged kids? Yes, I am in the process of getting everything together now. Hallow Project is a foundation helpingstudents find funding for school. My foundation will assist with scholarships, application fees, school fees, and the necessities for their education.

“I have never allowed obstacles or life’s situations (good or bad) to define or stifle me. As a mother, my intent is to have a legacy and to set an example for my children. Being an entre-preneur enables me to accomplish this.”

Homely feel, upscale décor, lavish smell, couture clothing, and engaging expressions all describes luxurious boutique located in Roswell, GA. Soon as you cross the door step you forget that you are indeed shopping, immediately you feel right at home. The innovative touch of combining fashion into a way of living, is a reflection of Tameka Raymond’s values, goals, and of course life-style. Estella Boutique captivates shoppers with more than just clothing by showcasing a deeper piece of Ms. Raymond. Allowing life challenges in love gained, love lost and moving forward to become a stepping-stone to discover everything that makes her come alive in fashion, family, and giving back.

Her unpredicted journey in love, combative media comments, and being a mother didn’t stop her show. It was those same adversities that allowed her to carry on, embrace change, and stand true to who she is as a woman. “I have never allowed obstacles or life’s situations (good or bad) to define or stifle me. As a mother, my intent is to have a legacy and to set an example for my children. Being an entrepreneur enables me to accomplish this. Having been a stylist it was the natural progression for me to own my own boutique and eventually a product line,” explains Ms. Raymond.

And that she did. Her first venture is a treasure that can be found in the historic district of Roswell, GA. Her love for fashion, and everything sweet that life has to offer graces Estella Boutique. The name Estella is the tribute to Ms. Raymond’s maternal grandmother who was her greatest inspira-tion. Described by Ms. Raymond, she was “very strong willed, outspoken, and LOVED fashion.”

From the time we walked in the door we were indulged with sweet smells of luxury soaps and bath products, a couture presentation of exclusive home décor, complimented with fashionable pieces, and statement jewelry. Estella defines lifestyle. The look and the feel is the true essence of family values and family ties, hence the inspiration behind Estella Boutique. “I wanted to mimic the feeling of my Grandmother Estella’s home. It was always a focal meeting point for my family and I wanted to encompass that same comforting vibe within the store,” Recalls Ms. Raymond.

Estella’s luxurious embellishments places Ms. Raymond boutique in the forefront for the savvy fashionable shopper. “Estella unites latest fashions with world travel and other eclectic finds,” expresses Ms. Raymond. “It’s an experience. You can come in and get anything from hydrating body oils to that perfect dress for a night out on the town, to an exotic pillow or chair to com-plete a room décor.”

CLUTCH: TAMEKA RAYMOND

FashionLifestyleGivingSuccess Surely her boutique brings her dreams to life, but Tameka’s inner joy relies on the day-to-day happiness of her children. Her devotion to her children birthed the next milestone in her career; KangaZoom. Flourishing chil-dren’s ideal of fun into an in-door facility full of kid friend-ly activities, KangaZoom is an all around children’s source of entertainment currently housing two locations in Georgia. Unlike many, Kan-gaZoom is not only a facility for children, but it gravitates to bond parents with their children through cohered activities. Raising four boys, it’s a no-brainer what influ-enced the combination of amusement for the kids, and a soothing setting for the parents. “As a parent, I know I want my children to be somewhere where they can-not only have fun, but where they are safe. KangaZoom offers a friendly environment for not just children to have fun, but for adults to have a place to relax too. I believe it’s the best of both worlds for both kids and parents alike,” she acknowledges.

Great wine, travel, bubble baths, huge smiles on my son’s faces. The list goes on and I try to add to it daily.

Embarking on her experiences as a mother, an entrepreneur, and a stylist, giving back is her true motive for success. The importance of helping others is the driving force for the “Lost Ones” foundation. In the midst of running two companies, Tameka doesn’t take her blessings for granted. “I believe you have to be a blessing to receive one. My foundation was a way for me to reach young girls to mentor and inspire them to be their best selves.”

Lost One’s mission is to motivate, empower and inspire the lives of girls, the foundation leads five-day retreats, complete with positive image workshops, health seminars, beauty makeovers and testimonials. Her desire to help others is impeccable and greatly needed for our younger generation. In an unfair and mislead society, Lost Ones provides the encouragement to help young women push forward. Although Ms. Raymond is very open about her support system along the way, she takes heed in those who weren’t as fortunate. “Unfortunately, the world isn’t perfect, so not everyone has an encourager or support system, so when creating Lost Ones, I wanted to craft that for adolescents who are deprived of those key people in their lives,” She emphasizes.

Surrounded by a judgmental and obsess with beauty society, Ms. Raymond describes the im-portance of self worth in every young girl that leads to a better woman. “Knowing that they are worthy, deserving and beautiful, is a great daily reminder for oneself. I believe in affirmations and you must believe that you possess those wonderful qualities before anyone else will be-lieve.”

Mother, stylist, and an entrepreneur--her shoes aren’t easy to fill. How does she do it? Through prioritizing she finds the perfect niche to be the best she can be as a mother. “Being a mother is my first priority and having had such good examples in my family, it actually came naturally for me to strive to be the best parent I can be. I’m truly captivated by seeing my visions come to life, that’s what drives me as entrepreneur. When I have a goal, I work hard until I reach and exceed it.” As mediocre as it sounds, there is nothing simple about juggling it all and in the same breath being true to herself. When asked how she balances it all, she replies with a simple one-word answer that is the vice to many. “Prayer. I won’t pretend it’s easy. I have priorities and I try and balance everything in my life according to them. I also do not take things or people for granted, I stay very grounded and realistic.”

The night was young, but everything was “Swanking” for the exclusive Posh Glam Shopping event held at Swank Boutique, located in Southfield, MI. Hosted by Detroit’s very own, fashion blogger, “Same Girl Dif-ferent Hair” t-shirt designer, Mia Ray, and Reality hip-hop star, Emily B, Swank Boutique recapped the night with their own signature touch on their exclusive shopping shindig for women. The eats were fulfilled with delicious cupcakes, and drinks to add a little flavor to your ultimate shopping experience.

Upon entering, there were real live mannequins rocking the 70s look with electric fros, full piece body suits, and popping lips ---it was surely a “Posh” filled night. Swank Boutique pieces are unique, fun, and trendy, satisfying the classy, edgy, and showstopper taste buds. Throughout the night, we caught up with Ebony (the owner), Mia Ray, and Emily B herself.

A Posh Glam SoireeGlitz and Glam Exclusive

Swank boutique owner, Ebony, rocked her own paraphernalia, along with motorcycle pants, and a blazer—simple, elegant, and classy all in one. Greeting customers, directing her staff, and snap-

ping pictures, it was hard to catch a moment with the fancy Boutique owner. She meant business, browsing through her boutique, we quickly made the connection between her defined sense of style and the unique pieces sold in the store. Ladies laughed, shopped, and gathered together to enjoy what Ebony described as a “Posh Glam Soiree,” and we took it for nothing less. Swanky meaning stylish, and luxurious definitely describe Ebony’s persona and her fash-ionable clientele—we were Swank-ti-fied!

How did Swank boutique come about? Where did the name come from?Originally I had a hair salon in Eastpointe, and there used to be a lady in the salon selling jew-elry. I pulled her to the side and asked her about her numbers for the weekend, after that I did my research, and quit the salon. From there, I opened up a boutique at 12 oaks mall. Was fashion always something under your belt?I always dress nice, kind of a branded person, but it was nothing that I just always wanted to do, it was kind of something I fell into doing.

Describe your clients at Swank Boutique?

What’s unique about Detroit women in terms of beauty and style?

Previously owning a salon, can we expect a salon opening soon affiliated with Swank Boutique?

What else do you want to add under your belt in collabora-tion with your boutique?

Being a boutique owner, what’s your personal style?

What’s your Sweet Tooth?

She’s a go out girl, I have some chic clients that know what they want and are shop-ping fashion forward. Some of my clients come looking for something to wear for an event that night, a concert, or a party that weekend--she’s a really trendy girl.

Our hair definitely! Also our selections of jackets, we love hot, cute jackets. The big earrings, fly hair, and cute jackets.

No, Never!

Right now, I am in the brand-ing process for Swank Bou-tique. I want it to be big of course. Eventually I want more stores not just here, but branching off to out-of-state as well.

Very funky, dainty, comfort-able, and I love a really tight dress to accentuate your curves.

My motivation to just “get it,” family is im-portant to me, I believe in taking care of your family, hair, shopping, and putting effort into everything I do.

Ebony- Owner of Swank

Confessions of a Glam-Aholic blogger, and creator of all things fab, stepped in the event with a long yellow-printed dress, and Indian fringed shoes—she was hot! Detroit Native, Mia Ray is known for her around-the way attitude, but her go-getter personality can’t

go unnoticed. First introducing the “Same Girl Different Hair” t-shirts, to the Glam-Aholic Lifestyle caps, make-up bags, lastly leaving an expression add-ing “Be Glam…Be Fab…..Be You” panties, and Glam-Aholic nail polish to her collection, both of which accompanied the goodie bags for the evening. We saw her in action, showcasing a true hustler mentality while catering to all her Glam clients —a true definition of a Glam-Aholic!

Confessions of A Glam-Aholic – MIA RAY

Glitz and Glam Exclusive

First, for those who don’t know tell us who Mia Ray is. I’m a fashion blogger, I’m a mother first of one son, I’m an entrepreneur. I am just an everyday girl, that loves fashion.

How did Confessions of a Glam-Aholic come about?Actually, I’ve always been the person people came to for fashion advice and tips. My friend one day said, “you have to share this with everybody,” “start a blog.” I didn’t even know what a blog was, to be honest. Once I started my blog, I felt like I was talking to my homegirl! Blogging everyday, more people took heed to my advice. Shortly after, people commented, “I brought this because you said it on your blog,” I thought to myself, “Ohh, people actually listen to me!” and from there it was a snowball effect.

Ok, so now you have a name for yourself birthing the “Same Girl Different Hair” t-shirts. Where did that slogan come from?

Lol..I’m the type of person that change my hairstyle like I change my panties. my best friend’s father frequently asked, “Is that Mia?”, I always responded, “yeah it’s me, same girl different hair.” One day I said it, and my friend repeated, “same girl different hair, you have to put that on a shirt.” I thought about the idea and realized there are a lot of girls that change their hairstyles. So that’s really where it came from, just a saying I used to say because I change my hairstyle so much.

Now having the Glam-Aholic Lifestyle, are you ventur-ing into styling, or a clothing line? What’s your ultimate goal? No, I don’t want a clothing line. I want Glam-Aholic Lifestyle to be a brand, whether it be one day I make Glam-Aholic sheets and forks, I want it to be a brand. I don’t want to put myself in a box, and limit myself to just clothing. It’s so many other areas I want to go into, anything from selling notebooks, pencils, pens, and socks—I want to explore everything.

Being a Detroit Native, what’s a Detroit Girl to you?A Detroit Girl is a hustler.

Stepping out on faith with your blog, and Glam-Aholic Lifestyle. What advice do you have for those seeking to follow their passion?I tell everybody, to do what makes you happy. Not what every-body else perceives, it’s about you. At the end of the day, I used to sit behind my desk at work and cry, I was making a lot of money, but I just wasn’t happy, until I started doing this. I stepped out on faith, and made it happen. You have to do what makes you happy, it’s not about money, it’s about what makes you happy.

What’s Mia Ray style?Ever since I was little I’ve always been a tomboy. My mother has three girls, and she would always say, she had two girls and a boy. Eventually I ventured out and started to wear more “girly” things and I liked it. So my style is versatile. One day I can be wearing Jordan’s, the next day I’ll have on 5, 6-inch pumps. Sweats pants, hair tied, and bamboo earrings, and the next day I’m a totally dif-ferent person. How do you decide who fits your Confessions brand of fashion?I have an eye for it. I like people that’s different, whether it be Em-ily, or Amber Rose. I have an eye for it, and I just know, “ok she got it!” I know it when I see it.

What’s one celebrity you follow for style?June Ambrose

What’s your Sweet ToothMy son, fashion, making other people happy, and the joy to hear girls say, ”I did this because you said so,” or “I feel so inspired by you,” basically being an inspiration to others.

EMILY B – Love & Hip-Hop Reality Star

When Emily entered the building, we absolutely fell in love. We couldn’t decide whether it was her sexy black pants, polka dot top, sassy curls, or her hot pink luxurious lipstick that made her stun-ning. Panting the town red gracing Christian Louboutins, alluring enough, Emily had just enough sex appeal while keeping it classy. “I love your bag,” remarked the Love & Hip-Hop reality star right before we started the interview. It was clear she had an eye for fashion. Two bodyguards surrounded her but her down-to-earth attitude shinned through, as she effortlessly posed for the camera for her fans---she was fab!

Before you were on Love & Hip-Hop, you started your career as a stylist. Tell us about your journey as a stylist, and who you styled before.

The first season we saw you a little bit more shy and timid, this season we saw you break out your shell a lot more. How would you say Love & Hip-Hop helped with your independence and to concentrate on Emily?

I been styling for about 11 years, it’s been a long jour-ney. I started off styling a local entertainer from the city I grew up in, Norfolk Virginia, and from there I worked my way up to the top. I started working with photog-raphers and models to build my portfolio. I moved to New York, and of course started working with Fab--he was actually my first known music artist I worked with. I was styling for many, many years but I hadn’t work with anyone on that scale yet. Fab was already established so people looked out for his style. When I took over as his stylist we revamped his whole look--we went to another level, it was time for him to grow up, so it was a bit of a challenge. So that opened up many doors for my styling career.

So was Fabolous the first music artist you worked with? No, my first client was an artist by the name of Fam-Lay. He was originally signed to Def Jam, under Pharrell’s Music Label. Since Love & Hip-Hop, you are no longer categorized as “Fab Girl”, people had a chance to see the inside and outs of Emily B. Sharing your experiences on a reality platform, what are some of the misconceptions you wanted to get across through Love & Hip-Hop? I think coming on to the show, I took it on originally because I felt like I wanted to make a name for myself, and set my self apart be-cause even though the world didn’t know me, the people around me and in the industry did. I felt like people didn’t respect my craft because people looked at me as just Fab’s Girl. Therefore originally when I took on the show, I thought it would be more about me and not so much about him. However, they were so interested in that story, that it turned into the “Fab Show,” that’s what I call it, because every-thing is about him even when I’m not involved. So I kinda got a chance to prove who I am but not really, it’s like a gift and a curse.

First season I was a little scared because I had never done anything like that before. I never talked about those things openly; I kept most of it to myself. By the second time around I was all in, everybody knew my business already, so I was more comfortable talking about it. I think the show still doesn’t show who I truly am. I have way more personality, and I’m way sassier. I don’t cut corners, and I don’t take nobody sh*t! So, I think the show doesn’t portray that, it portrays, you know, the cries, the baby, the sensitive girl, and I have a lot more to offer.

So will there be a Season 3?Umm...we are currently negotiating contracts. On the show, we saw that you were in the progress of developing your own clothing line. What’s the status of your clothing line now?Right now it’s currently in the design phase. I do sketch; I work with a team of designers, and generate ideas. I’m not going to do anything I don’t believe in, I’m very, very involved in my clothing line. So what’s the style type for your line?My customers will be women who are chic, classy, and sexy. What’s your personal style?People say I wear a lot of black. I’m trying to break out of it, but I think it’s a stylist thing. When I am on set I always wear black, I think it’s kind of mysterious. People say, “you need to wear more color,” but I do experiment with color, but my go to color is black. I’m a little edgy, some-times I’m sexy, but I want to keep it classy. What’s next for Emily B?What’s Next? I’m just going to continue working on my line, I don’t know about Season 3.

What’s your Sweet Tooth? My children, God, and Fashion

There are plenty of Lights, Cameras, and FASHION in ATL. Atlanta is known for their music and social scenes, so it only makes sense for fashion to be a huge part of Atlanta. When you take a good look at the social scene in Atlanta you’ll notice that many of the socialites embraces the trends to cre-ate new and hot looks for spring, such as “Color-blocking”, “High Waist”, and “Modern Romance.”

The modern Romance trend includes bright colors, and funky yet girly prints that are flattering to your figure. One way to get this look is by taking a flirty dress with a fun print, and belting it to accent your waist.

If accenting your waist is important then then “High Waist” look is your look this season. This look is super easy to get. You can snag a pair of high waist jeans, shorts or a nice pencil skirt. The key to this look is to make sure that the waist is visible; so all tops must be tucked in.

We can’t forget about color when we are putting together these looks, as “color-blocking” is also essential to the season. You can easily color block by putting like colors together to create the perfect outfit. This can be done with a bright top and colored denim or bandage skirts. These looks along with many more are easily attainable when you are shopping at Atlanta’s fashion for-ward boutiques. Boutiques like TAGS, Strut, Fab’rik, and K-la are great places to shop for Spring 2012’s latest fashions. Check out our fav looks from some of Atl’s runway ready boutiques.

This look from tags and Strut boutiques is a fun yet flirty version of “Modern Romance”. The print is flattering to many shapes and the waist can be accented with a thin belt. Look: “Pretty in Pink” Dress and Vince Camuto Kiki shoe

This look doesn’t need much for it to come together. Since the dress is so bold the shoes are the only accesso-ries you’ll need. Look: “I luv Kandi” dress and “Tribal Chic “ heels.

In ATL making a statement is important. This look makes a bold statement with its lace booties. The booties are a nice contrast with the bright colored dress. Look: “Vicky” dress and Lace Jeffrey Campbell booties.

This look from K-la Boutique is so chic, not much is needed as far as accessories go. The white bag is a discrete way to color block.Look: “Solemio Rachel” Dress, Silver “Leaves” earrings, and “Charlie” bag.

This look is a color-blocking favorite. It makes a bold confident statement with its bright colors and bold jew-elry. This is a great way to achieve the “High Waist” look as well. Look: Collective Concepts “Belinda” blouse, “WOW” bandage skirt, “Katie” necklace, and “Andie” Bangles.

This look is super classic yet trendy with its flattering lace top compli-mented by a “High-low” skirt. This look is an example of “Modern Ro-mance”Look: Collective Concepts “Kari” top, “Crescent” earrings, “Taylor” bracelet, and Alice Moon Summer stroll skirt.

Here is another color-blocking look from Fab’rik Boutique that is guaranteed to turn heads. Only a person who lives for fashion would be comfortable wearing this look. Look: “Square” top, “green” jeans, nude platform heels, and woven clutch.

This look is 1970’s inspired yet perfect for Spring 2012. The tribal pattern dress and fringed bag are a perfect match. Look: “Hope for Haiti bracelets”, Fab’rik long sleeve “ethnic print” dress, and fringe bag.

This look is perfect for a stroll down “Peachtree Street”. The jacket and tank are a great contrast, and the flared jeans are a great way to make the two patterns come together. Look: Fab’rik striped tank, BB Dakota Jack Cadence Jacket, and Hudson “Ferris Flare in Chelsea” jeans. The jeans are a little high on the waist so this is a great “High Waist” example.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel and look like a celebrity. In fact every woman should be treated with such dignity, whether wanting to look fabulous for a night out, a special occasion, or a fab photo-shoot, your desire to be Glamorous starts and end with you. And Glamorous is an understatement for the city of Atlanta. No matter what time it is around the clock, stepping out for

a grocery store run, can turn into a catwalk in a matter of seconds. Atlanta’s melting pot of variety diversi-ties and ethnicities is commonly known—and upon arriving, you can’t help but to notice that appearance isn’t taken lightly. Jacqueline Walker, strategized on Atlanta’s heavily influenced fashion scene, and created a runway of her own, and instead of the mundane, same old, same old--this red carpet is the color of which describes almost every “girly girl” favorite hue, Pink. Incorporating her own personal style, and Business Management degree from the University of Phoenix , the Pink Carpet, founded in 2011, prides itself in cre-ating the ultra fabulous fashion experience for women.

Jacqueline’s downsouth upbringing became a key essential for the development of her brand as a fashion guru. As a Texas Native, her life in the Atlanta suburbs emerged a firm the helps women look and feel like a million bucks by teaching them how to dress fashionably while accentuating their best features. Although we typically associate a glam squad with our favorite celebrity, Walker is sold on the fact, that you don’t have to be a celebrity to be treated like one. The Pink Carpet is for the inner fashion rage in every woman, and Walker’s excitement in transforming the girl next door to America’s top model is priceless. “There is nothing more I love than to see than a woman’s face light up when I take a look from bland to GLAM!”

1 Be You!Your personal style is a form of self-expression. While we all want to be on top of all the latest trends and wearing the hottest designers, it is very important to remain true to yourself and your unique individu-alism. Instead of focusing on being a walking bill-board, learn how to put a twist on modern trends to make them your own. So don’t just wear a bandage skirt, cut a slit in the side of yours and create a bow. Being able to wear the latest styles in a way that no one has seen before is what will set you apart from the crowd.

2 Accentuate Your Assets!Too many women simply do not know how to dress properly for their body types. We have a tendency to focus on what we dislike about our bodies and disguising those features instead of embracing what makes our bodies beautiful and placing emphasis on those features. With that being said, it is also im-portant to realize that not everyone can wear every thing. If you’re an hourglass draw attention to your waist with clothing that punctuate your curves. If you’re pear try to de-emphasize your hips and draw attention to your upper body.

3 Make A Statement!Accessories are the easiest way to add your own personal touch to a look. Give two women the same little black dress and put them in a room full of jewelry, accessories and shoes there is no telling how many different looks they’ll each come up with! Any time that you feel your outfit is a little bland add a statement piece for that extra pop.

4 Don’t Be Afraid To Mix And Match!Anyone who tells you that you cannot wear black and brown together or mix polka dots and strips needs to be punished! Try to pair a neutral print with a busy one, let one print take the lead while the other supports. You can also play with tex-tures. Try a high-waisted skirt with a lace print with a feminine vintage polka dot blouse.

Robyn K. Fuller

Love Always, Robyn

Lately it’s been all work and very little play. As a generation, we are such a driven group of in-

dividuals. I have never seen more motivated young adults; so many of my friends are entrepreneurs,

doctors, lawyers, CPAs; etc. I must admit I’m proud of my circle. At the age of 27, we have invested

a lot of time, building and shaping our careers, into being something that we are proud of. However,

it’s unfortunate that we are limiting the importance of sharing these moments with people we love

and care about. I would say, in my circle of friends, none of us are married. It’s not because we

wouldn’t make good mates, but I think it’s because we invest so much in our careers, that we have put

relationships on a “fit it in” basis.

Most of my friends, at the mention of being ready to start a family, think it’s completely insane

right now, because they are still getting “settled” into their careers. This makes me wonder, “Are we

investing as much time, establishing personal relationships, as we do in developing our career?” The

obvious answer is, no. For me, my education, my career, and financial well-being are very impor-

tant. However, having a family (of my own) and friends to share my accomplishments with, mean

just as much.

While I work dreadful hours during this time of year, I make sure to invest in the people that

mean the most to me. I try not to miss birthdays, gatherings, and any other important life mo-

ments. I still send cards in the mail, just because, for job promotions, and holidays, just to show

the people that I care about, that I haven’t forgot about them. Social media and email has made it

very easy to forget to do those things. Sometimes, you have to get back to the basics. One of my goals

this year is to spend more time investing in my relationships with others. I won’t completely

disregard taking care of business....but I am going to make building and maintaining relationships

a priority.

Satisfy yourself

Self-P ampering by: Natasha E. Feghali

Many of us have so many responsibilities that we forget to take care of our mind, body and soul. While it may be hard to prioritize something like taking a soothing bath or a massage, self-care is an important aspect of stress management which can prevent chronic stress from damag-ing your health. While self-pampering may not always lead to major improvements in overall health like diet and exercise does; the soothing feeling of well-being and self-care are good for your mind, body and soul.

Taking time out to care for yourself can also be a reminder to others that your needs are important, too. Having a well-cared-for body can make you feel good about yourself and your life as well as conveys to others that you value your needs. This can contribute to long-term feelings of well-being as those who may neglect their own needs and forget to nur-ture themselves may have deeper levels of unhappiness, low self-esteem and feelings of resentment.

Taking a break amidst a tub of warm bubbles or under the warm hands of an experienced masseuse can help you feel like you’re escaping a perhaps stressful reality and taking a mental and emotional vacation. It allows you to come back to the reality of your life feeling refreshed and relaxed. When you’re relaxing by yourself, it’s much easier to slip into a state of quiet meditation, enjoy some self-reflection, or let your problems work themselves out while you enjoy the sweet surrender.

Take a bath: Get out the bubbles, oils and scented soaps, and soak until you’re wrinkled.

Deep-Condition your hair: While you’re in the tub, put on a deep-conditioning treatment for your hair, and let it work as you relax.

Deep-Clean your pores: With a nice clay masque, you can draw impurities out of your skin and stress out of your system.

Care for your feet: After you soak your feet to soften calloused skin, use a pumice stone to slough off dead skin, and finish with a rich foot cream, and perhaps a beautiful polish!

Nourish your skin: Rich, luxurious creams smell wonderful and feel smooth, especially if you exfoliate your skin in the tub be-fore putting them on.

Tend to your nails: Correct the beating your nails probably take from your busy life by filing and buffing. A coat of polish can make you feel great for days afterward.

Get a massage: This one can be especially nice. If your budget doesn’t allow for regular massages with a professional, see if you can use an electronic massager.

watching a metamorphous transform into the most beautiful butterfly.” Spread-ing her wings, she fluttered on Clark Atlanta Campus.

College wasn’t an array of drunken parties, late nights, and pulling in votes to be Miss popular for Lauren. Instead—she struggled with acceptance from her peers because of her strong and mature nature. She openly admits, that every time she tried to get ahead it felt like it was a ton of bricks holding her back. “It always seemed during my formative years, that I would experience struggles while trying to achieve my education and my dreams to one day becoming a profound writer of poetry and public speaker,

There is nothing more sexier than a confident woman, but behind that confidence, a driven and ambitious attitude must also coincide. Honor-ing our “Emerging Star”, Lauren Alex-is Hampton-the perfect combina-tion between book intelligence and determination. With all do respect, let us get a little bit more acquainted with Lauren.

As a growing child, Lauren’s yearning to succeed started at home. School was not a hobby for the Hampton household it was a must. The whis-pers of Lauren’s mother voice guided her to succeed in school. Not know-ing exactly where that road will lead, Lauren had one purpose in mind. “My goal was to honor the sacrifices my mother has made for my success by excelling in school. Purposed with a special gift that will one day chal-lenge the world, my mother had the awesome and relentless privilege of

and one day writing a children’s novel. It was almost as if there was a greater force trying to hinder my suc-cess. In spite of this, I still have main-tained an inner-beauty and a special attraction to “the least of these,” says the soon-to-be Clark graduate.

Through her struggles as a student, she learned what it takes many, countless jobs, lonely nights, and a deeper sense of meaning to find out. “Over the years, my educational ex-perience allowed me to identify that success does not equal happiness unless there is a deeper meaning attached to it,” remarks Lauren. That moment of clarity marked the begin-ning of Lauren’s ongoing search for career endeavors that connects with her inner peace. Graduating May 2012, Lauren is “emerging” into the next chapter of her life.

Satisfy your faithBy De’Nisha Beasley

You see her on the subway every morning on your way to work. She clutches her Louis Vuitton bag as she stands tall in her Jimmy Choo shoes. She’s gor-geous, confident and neatly put together. What you don’t see is that she’s de-pressed, lonely and falling apart on the inside. You see him every day at the

gym. He’s the one with the six pack, glistening brown skin and perfect smile. He’s outgoing, charming and all the ladies love him. What you don’t see is that he is suffering from rejec-tion, thoughts of suicide and crying from within. All over the world there are people who are using makeup, designer clothes and fake smiles to conceal their hurt. We often spend so much time ornamenting, beautifying and enhancing our physical bodies that we totally neglect our inner-spirit

Hurt over a broken relationship, grief from the loss of a loved one, hopelessness from lack of employment and discontentment with one’s physical appearance are just some of the issues that lead to spiritual distress. Trying to fix these issues with tactics such as shop-ping, drinking, partying or having sex will not lead to a long term solution. When your inner-spirit is wounded it needs “spiritual medicine.”

Nurse Practitioner, Lesley Caldwell MSN,FNP-BC, believes it’s important to focus on herpatient’s spirit, soul and body. She says, “It’s important to do the practical but don’t forget that man is a triune being and it’s important to protect ourselves in each aspect. Sometimes outward physical symptoms are actually a direct manifestation of a patient being in an un-healthy state in their spirit, soul and /or mind.”

It is essential for us to recognize that our spirit is just as important as our body. Here are some tips for emerging into a spiritually healthy life.

1. Simply pray and ask for God to help you. There is great power in prayer. Psalm 35:15,17,18 says, “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are atten-tive to their cry; The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

2. Talk with a spiritual counselor. If you are having issues with your heart, you go see a heart specialist. If you are having issues with your eyes, you go see an eye specialist. Likewise, if you are having issues within your spirit, you should go see someone who is trained in addressing spiritual issues such as a pastor, biblical counselor or religious leader.

3. Study the Bible. The Bible’s purpose is to provide us with guidance, wisdom and direction for our daily lives. It contains tons of scriptures and personal narratives that can offer inspiration, encouragement and spiritual comfort. Begin to read, quote and meditate on scriptures that relate to the issues you are facing.

4. Join a support group or a ministry of individuals who can offer advice, support and Godly counsel. Many churches have ministries that are designed to specifically address issues that we face in the world today. They also may host workshops from a spiritual perspective that address topics related to finances, self-image, domes-tic violence and/or grief. Find a church that offers services that meet your spiritual needs and get involved! Remember, our spiritual well-being is just as important as our physical well-being. While you are busy exercising, accessorizing and beautify-
