ATLANTA, GEORGIA | QUICK GUIDE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
GET TO KNOW
GEORGIASTATE
MAKE ATLANTAYOUR HOME
Georgia State University is a rapidly growing public research institution in downtown Atlanta, the largest city in the Southeast United States. Our 11 colleges and schools have gained national recognition for excellence in academics and research.
We are proud to be ranked the country’s No. 1 public university for undergraduate teaching and No. 2 for innovation.* Our ingenuity, determination and commitment to constantly challenge ourselves has enabled us to graduate a record number of students from all backgrounds in less time than other universities.
We believe philanthropist and entrepreneur Bill Gates said it best: “No other university has accomplished what Georgia State has the last decade.” That’s why more than 3,000 international students from 150-plus countries call our downtown Atlanta Campus (and five Perimeter College campuses) home each year.
Our location in Atlanta — Georgia’s capital city and the leading cultural and economic center in the Southeast — gives you unmatched opportunities to grow professionally and personally.
On our downtown Atlanta Campus, which sits in the middle of Fortune 500 companies, technology startups, notable nonprofits and consulates, you have the power to build networks and gain career experience. Our relationships with major organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can connect you to internship and research opportunities in leading fields, like healthcare.
Having been an integral part of the Civil Rights Movement, Atlanta’s rich history is rivaled only by its thrilling attractions. And our moderate climate (52ºF/11ºC-average in January and 89ºF/32ºC-average in July) means you can enjoy it year-round.
Like Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C., Atlanta is a destination for diversity and culture, but our cost of living is significantly lower. Best of all, our proximity to other big cities — which can be accessed through Hartsfield-Jackson (the world’s busiest airport) in just hours — and vacation spots such as the Appalachian Mountains and Atlantic Coast — which are drivable in four hours or less — makes getting away easy.
WELCOME TO ATLANTA. WELCOME TO GEORGIA STATE.

ATLANTA CAMPUS
UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE PROGRAMS - Our 250-plus fields of study — the most offered in Georgia — attract motivated students and renowned faculty. Perhaps that’s why we’re ranked the nation’s No. 1 public university for undergraduate teaching.* Best of all, our student-faculty ratio is 26:1, making our professors accessible.
As you explore our colleges and schools, our expert academic advisers are available to help you identify your passions and strengths. If you can’t find a major that interests you, create your own through the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program or pursue dual-undergraduate/graduate degrees.
Students who have excelled in high school may be eligible for our Honors College. Honors students benefit from the exclusive advantages of a small, ambitious community (like independent research and study abroad opportunities) while also leveraging the unparalleled possibilities of a large urban research university.
PERIMETER COLLEGE
ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAMS - Perimeter College is the perfect starting point for students looking to work on a two-year degree. Choose from more than 30 affordable associate degree programs — and Honors College curriculum — across five campuses convenient to the downtown Atlanta Campus. And when (and if) you’re ready, you can easily transfer to Georgia State’s downtown Atlanta Campus for a bachelor’s degree.
RESEARCH
As one of the nation’s fastest-growing research universities and the largest in Georgia, we continue to make significant discoveries across disciplines. Each breakthrough earns us new recognition and a competitive edge in recruiting the most qualified faculty. Through our unique undergraduate and graduate research opportunities, you can be a part of it, working alongside mentors to answer life’s biggest questions.
