ATLANTIC TO OCEAN COUNTIES RELIABILITY PROJECT

Atlantic City Electric is committed to providing our customers and communities with safer and more reliable energy service. Given the growing threats from extreme weather and powerful storms, we are making strategic upgrades to modernize our energy infrastructure across South Jersey.

As part of this effort, we are planning the Atlantic to Ocean Counties Reliability Project to rebuild a critical transmission line using stronger utility poles and modern equipment to benefit more than 22,000 customers in Atlantic, Burlington and Ocean counties. We conducted a comprehensive review of potential options and identified this upgrade as the most cost-effective and least impactful option to modernize the local energy grid, improve reliability, and meet the energy needs of residents, businesses and the community.

This photo rendering shows what the new steel poles are expected to look like along portions of the rebuilt transmission line.

Why It’s ImportantImproves reliability for more than 22,000 customers by reducing the frequency and duration of outages.

Modernizes critical infrastructure serving Port Republic, Bass River and Little Egg Harbor townships, increasing its resiliency and longevity.

Provides more redundancy and operational flexibility to respond quickly to outages in the region.

Strengthens local energy infrastructure against more extreme weather, like major storms and hurricanes.

PROJECT DETAILSWe will rebuild 15.1 miles of critical transmission line between Port Republic and Tuckerton. The project will replace the line’s existing wood poles with new, stronger poles that are capable of withstanding more severe weather. The current line was built in 1939 and must be modernized. We have performed regular maintenanceto the line over the decades, but no major upgrades have occurred since it was built.

While most of the line will be comprised of steel poles capable of withstanding hurricane-force winds, several areas will be rebuilt with new wood poles based on state requirements. On average, poles will range from 60 to 85 feet tall. We are continuing to design this project and will determine the final locations for the new poles based on several considerations, including community input and engineering requirements. We have installed similar steel poles in other South Jersey communities, including Avalon, Stone Harbor, Monroe Township, Woodstown and Winslow Township.

Upgrading this transmission line will provide us with more redundancy and operational flexibility to respond quickly to outages in the region. The current configuration of the regional transmission system is outdated and provides us with limited options to respond to outages, leaving many of our customers vulnerable to prolonged outages. By modernizing this transmission line and increasing its capacity with larger, more modern conductors, we will create new options to reroute energy to areas where we had limited abilities to respond to issues previously.

COMMITTED TO WORKING WITH YOUWe are committed to working closely with our customers and communities to address questions and minimize potential impacts throughout the project. We value your input and will work with you to incorporate your feedback and address your concerns, wherever possible, and will continue to keep you informed throughout the entire

project. We will perform all work within the times identified in the construction permits and will keep noise levels from construction activities within established thresholds. We will make every effort to minimize disruptions and impacts to the community and will restore all areas affected by construction.

Enhancing Reliability Across South JerseyThe Atlantic to Ocean Counties Reliability Project is part of our broader strategic effort to strengthen and modernize the energy grid serving South Jersey. This effort includes dozens of targeted projects in communities across South Jersey to harden our critical energy infrastructure and build a more resilient grid to prevent those outages that can be prevented. Visit atlanticcityelectric.com/reliability to learn more.

ENHANCING RELIABILITY

n Stronger Poles: New, state-of-the-art steel utility poles can withstand hurricane-force winds up to 120 mph.

n Minimizing System Vulnerabilities: Existing transmission line is comprised of wood poles and is much more vulnerable to storm damage.

n Enhanced Capabilities: Allowing us to respond more quickly to outages between Port Republic and Tuckerton.
