Step1DownloadandinstallTrekbuddyAtlasCreatorV1.7BetaandmakesurethatyoualsohaveJava

Runtimelibrariesinstalledonyourcomputer.

Step2YoucanmovearoundonthemaptoselecttheareayouwanttomapwhileadjustingtheZoom

Levelsonthepreviewmap,however,Idonotrecommendselectingyourmapareathisway. I

recommendmanuallysettingthemapareaintheSelectionCoordinatesareaattheupperright

portionofthescreen. Thisallowsyoutobe

moreprecisesothatwhenyouwanttomake

borderingmapsyoucandoitinawaythatis

consistent. NormallyImakemymaps.1to.2

degreeswideand.1to.2degreestallusing

ZoomLevelsof17&14andIlaythemoutina

gridbeforebuildingthemaps. Thisallowsme

tocoverlargerareasoflandthatpossiblein1

file. SincetheTritonislimitedtoa4GBSD

cardandbecauseIdontwanttohavetobe

continuouslymakingmaps,nordoIwantto

overburdentheprocessorontheTritonwith

oversizedmapsItrytokeepthemtoaround

150MBinfilesize. ThisallowsmetoloadthemapsIneedbeforegoingout,butstillcoververy,very

largeareas. ThelargestsetofmapsIhavemadesofarcovertheHighDesert(MojaveDesert)areahere

inSouthernCaliforniawhichcoverabout6,100sqmiles. InthesamplegridshownIused.166degrees

forheightandwidth,however,Ialwaysadd.001degreesinalldirectionsinordertoaddoverlaptomy

maps,preventinglinesbetweenthem.

AddedNote:UsingmultiplesmallermapsalsoallowsyoutoselectthemapsyouneedinVantagePoint

inordertokeepitrunningfasteraswell.

Step3Selecting MapZoomLevels. Inormallyusezoomlevels17&14. Althoughthiswillnotallow

youtoseeyour

satellitemapsin

themoredistant

zoomlevelsonthe

Triton,itwillgive

yougoodquality

imagesdownto

the100ftlevel.

Personally,Iprefer

theTOPOmaps

whileinthemore

distantzoomlevels

ontheTritonand,

therefore,this

worksgreatforme.

Also,Iuseeitheran

AccuTerraoraTOPO3DUSA asmybasemap,insteadofthestandardmapthatcomeswiththeTriton.

IfyouhaveanAccuTerraorTOPOimifilesthatyouwanttouseasabasemap,justchangethefile

extensiontomgiandthenloaditintoVantagePoint,thenyoucanloaditintotheinternalmemory(Size

Permitting)ortheSDCard,yourpreferenceandthenselectitasyourbasemapontheTriton. Thisway

itiseasiertoswitchbetweenthetwo,becauseyouonlyhavetoTurnOffthesatemapontheTritonto

seetheTOPO,insteadofhavingtoscrolltoone

andthentheothertoselectbetweenthem.

Step4 SelectYourOutputDirectory. Thisstep

issimple. GodowntoSettingsontherightside

ofthescreentobringuptheSettingsDialogBox

,thengototheDirectoriestabandenteryour

preferreddestinationdirectory.

Step5SelectingaNameforYourMap. Onceyouhaveselectedanoutputdirectorythenextstepis

selectinganame

foryourmap. Start

byenteringthe

nameinthe

Namefieldunder

AtlasContent.

Onceyouentered

thenamethen

presstheClear

button,thiswill

causethenameto

appearinthe

contentlist.

Afterthenameis

listedinthe

contentwindow

andyouhaveselectedthecoordinatesyoudesireandthezoomlevelsyouwant,pressAddselection,

whichwilladdthecurrentselectiontotheAtlasContentwindow.

FinalStepOneyouhaveselectedyourcoordinates,selectedyourzoomlevels,settheoutputdirectory

andsetthenameyourfile,thenjustclickonCreateAtlasandlettheprogramgotowork.

Notes:AtlasCreatorhasacoupleofknownissues,oneofwhichisamaximumfilesize. Ifthiserror

occurs,youwillhavetoselectasmallerarea. Anotherknownissueisaheapmemorysizeerror,

however,thiscanbechangedbyeditingtheStart.cmdintheAtlasCreatordirectory.
