LPV Precision Dimensions.
An LPV approach is classified as an APV Procedure Based on the Lateral OCS dimensions of the Precision Approach Trapezoid, With Vertical Guidance Provided By the WAAS where the VAL >12 and < 50 meters. These procedures are Published on RNAV Global Position System (GPS) approach charts as the LPV minimum line.

LPV CRITERIALPV CRITERIA
FAA 8260.52 Criteria/Construction
--Order specifies criteria for Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) approach procedures where the value for the vertical alarm limit (VAL) is >12 meters and < 50 Meters vertical performance given the stated VAL parameters.
-- Approaches constructed under these criteria are termed “LPV”

What’s Driving WAAS/RNAV/LPV/GPS/RNP Initiative?
AS OUTLINED IN “FLIGHT PLAN 2006” THE INCREASE USE OFSATELLITE BASED TECHNOLOGY THROUGH OUT THE NATIONAL AIRSPACE, WILL NOT ONLY INCREASE AIRPORTCAPACITY BUT ALSO EFFICIENT USE OF THE AIRSPACE.
