Now is the time to define l,-5's next chapter as a highway of - and to - the future. WSDOT and Seattle are collaborating to dellver the Partnering for the Future of 1-5 project to address operations, demand management, and system resiliency problems. Since its opening in the 1950s, the 107-mile central 1-5 corridor has not been comprehensively analyzed nor improved; at the same time, along the 1-mile stretch in downtown Seattle, there is an innovative opportunity to strengthen connections between divided neighborhoods by improving mobility and creating significant new development capacity via lidding 1,-S_ Grassroots community efforts led to the leveraging of commercial resources to fund preliminary feasibility analyses to lid. This grant would in part further those efforts toward an implementable lid plan.
Awarding a BUILD grant to the Partnering for the Future of 1-5 project is a smart investment of federal dollars to identify and prioritize critically-needed improvements to both the regional 1-5 network and the economic ,epicenter of Seattle. We fully support WSDOT and the Seattle as they seek BUILD resources for this regionally, nationally, and internationally significant project. Thank you for your consideration of the application.
Sincerely,
Josh Brown, Executive Director Puget Sound Regional Goundl
