New Elementary School Project

• The Chief and Council of the Attawapiskat First Nation, though a competitive tendering process selected Penn-Co Construction Canada (2003) Limited to build the new elementary school.

• The value of the prime construction contract is 27.6 Million Dollars.

• The total value of the New School project (construction, design, site inspection) is 31.1 Million Dollars

– Construction start date March 2012

– Estimated completion Date June, 2014

– School Move In Date July, 2014

– School Classroom Ready Date August, 2014

• Funding provided by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development

What will be in the new school

• The school building will include:

- 16 regular classrooms

- 5 nursery/kindergarten classrooms

- 3 special education classrooms

- Cree Culture classroom

- Gymnasium

- Cafeteria

- Computer rooms

How big will be the school?

• The school site will be approximately 6

acres and include parking, playgrounds, and

athletic fields for baseball, and soccer.

• The school building will be 5,808m2

(62,500 square feet)

• The Chief and Council want to thank all those over the years that assisted in bringing this school project to a reality.

• The Chief and Council also wish to thank the Principal, Vice Principal, and the staff of the J.R. Nakogee School for their input during the design phase of this project

• The Chief and Council also wish to thank the members of the School Project Team that have worked diligently over the past three years to organize and bring this project to the current stage.
