Vocation General Intercessions

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time -- October 4, 2020 That men and women will be open to the voice of the Lord, asking the Holy Spirit and our Blessed Mother to help them recognize and answer His call to serve Him as a priest, deacon or in the consecrated life, we pray to the Lord. Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time -- October 11, 2020 That from the many called to holiness in Christ, those chosen to follow Him more closely in the priesthood and consecrated life will respond with humble readiness, we pray to the Lord. Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time -- October 18, 2020 For a growth in reverence for the gift and mystery of vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life and a readiness to give to God what is God’s in response to His call, we pray to the Lord. Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time -- October 25, 2020 That men and women will be encouraged to love God and their neighbor with the love of Christ and follow Him generously when chosen to serve others as a priest, deacon or in the consecrated religious life, we pray to the Lord. All Saints -- November 1, 2019 (National Vocation Awareness Week) That, through the intercession of all the saints, the Lord will grant holy men and women of our community vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life, we pray to the Lord.

Stewardship Thoughts for parish bulletins October 2020

Sunday, October 4 – 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s readings focus on vineyards. We know it takes time and dedication to produce a crop of grapes from a vineyard, but how often do we focus on the vineyards of our hearts? If we cultivate authentic Christian stewardship within our hearts, we give joyfully of our time, talent, and treasure to the Lord. If we do not connect our stewardship to doing the Lord’s work, it’s easy to let our heart’s vineyard produce a bad crop. Sunday, October 11 – 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s readings allow us to focus on how the Lord provides for us. We hear of “rich food and choice wine,” living “in the house of the Lord,” and that “God will fully supply whatever you need.” We know it’s highly unlikely that Jesus will co-sign on your mortgage or go to the grocery store to pay for your food. The question then, is how can we provide for others in Jesus’ name? Remember that we are all called, not only to receive Eucharist, but to become Eucharist for others by the sharing of our gifts. Sunday, October 18 – 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus’ response to the Pharisees today concluded with repaying “to God what belongs to God.” How have you received gifts from God in the last week or month or year or in your lifetime? It’s often easier to look at what has been taken away from us, but we are called to focus on what we’ve been given. After we acknowledge all that has been generously given to us, then we can have the mindset of joyfully sharing our own gifts with others. Sunday, October 25 – 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time Today’s Old Testament reading teaches us how to lend money. How often do we hesitate to share our material resources with others? Do we have reservations about how they will use them? Do we focus only on what they’ve already been given instead of on their persistent needs? It’s easy to focus on what others have been given and what has been taken away from ourselves, but we’re called to reverse this thinking. How do we count our own blessings then share our gifts generously with others?

Stewardship Thoughts for parish bulletins October 2020 (Continued)

Walking with Moms in Need

Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in a parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.

This year, as the Church celebrates the 25th anniversary of Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) by Pope St. John Paul II, we are invited to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. This nationwide effort entitled “Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service” is sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

To learn more about how your parish can take part in this effort contact our diocesan Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family at [email protected] or330-744-8451 ext. 272, or visit www.walkingwithmoms.com. A Prayer for Pregnant Mothers O Blessed Mother, you received the good news of the incarnation of Christ, your Son,

with faith and trust. Grant your protection to all pregnant mothers facing difficulties. Guide us as we strive to make our parish communities places of welcome and assistance

for mothers in need. Help us become instruments of God’s love and compassion. Mary, Mother of the Church, graciously help us build a culture of life and a civilization of love, together with all people of good will, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life. Amen. *Cf. Evangelium vitae 105 © Libreria Editrice Vaticana, Vatican City. Adapted with permission. All rights reserved.
