attract and address the audience

The mise-en-scene of my video will appeal to the target audience because it gives away some of the plot but leaves some areas unknown. As a result my target audience - who like crime - will be intrigued to continue watching and find out what happens later on in the opening. The key example of this is the mood board and the identity of the robber - throughout the opening I don’t fully visualise her face or any details about her personally. The age demographic of my target audience was something else I had to take into consideration - I had to ensure it was accessible and wasn’t either overly simple or massively complicated. This is because if it was too difficult - i.e the mood board was too in depth and descriptive - the target audience may have got bored of it as they may watch movies in order to relax rather than delve into another world of interrogation. The simplicity of having 2 characters initially also helped to attract my audience because they were able to follow them and see the contrast in behaviours. It also linked in with the crime genre where there is an antagonist character as well as a protagonist. This will attract the audience, especially to the criminal, as they’ll want to know how it develops and impacts on the plot. Page 1: Attract and Address the audience

Having dimmed lighting also attracted the audience because it played on the stereotypes of crime films.

My audience feedback revealed that my peers enjoyed it as it encapsulated the typical themes they had seen in other crime films. They felt that the lighting arrangement illuminated on the idea of delinquency or illegal events. All of the aforementioned featured choices led to them want to see the rest. However, the representation of the news reporter, they said, could have been better if the actress looked older. Further to this, despite the fact they liked having two characters they believed it would have been beneficial to have one male and one female but were not specific as to which would suit the characters best. The decision to include a voiceover was widely favoured in the audience feedback because they felt like it gave them an insight into the robber’s feeling towards law enforcement as well as the crimes she was committing.
