The Byodo-In Temple is located at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains in the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. It was established on June 7, 1968, to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. The Byodo-In Temple in Oahu is a smaller-scale replica of the over 950-year-old Byodo-in Temple, a United Nations World Heritage Site in Uji, Japan. Parts of Jurassic Park and The Hunger Games have been filmed at some of the areas of this hike. The beginning of the trail crosses over a footbridge and then crosses a small stream through a grove of Eucalyptus trees. The 0.8mile trail gradually ascends through a lush rainforest ending at a viewing area set back from the base of the falls. Then walk on the Aihualama Trail, which takes you back up the ridge, through bamboo and offers views of Honolulu and Manoa Valley. Aihualama Trail is not suitable for novice hikers.

Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor is located on historic Ford Island, an active military base that is accessed by shuttle bus. The visitors’ experience begins in Hangar 37, a 42,000 square foot former seaplane hangar that survived the December 7, 1941 attack. Transportation to Ford Island is via shuttle buses. After arrival in Pacific Aviation Museums’ lobby, guests enter a 200-seat theater where they view a 12 minute movie covering the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, including historic footage.

You’ll begin the tour as the morning sun warms the sandy beaches of Waikiki. Soon the eastern shores of Oahu will appear as you circle Diamond Head Crater. Then you’ll pass through luxurious Kahala with its mansions and beach houses. As we continue our tour, you’ll witness one of the most photographed places on Oahu. You’ve arrived at beautiful Hanauma Bay. This coral reef and marine sanctuary protects a wide array of sea creatures. Other natural wonders include molten lava tubes. They shoot ocean sprays 30 feet in the air as waves crash against the shoreline.Before long, we’ll weave up the Ko’olau Mountains to the Nu’uanu Pali Lookout. This is where King Kamehameha battled to unite the Hawaiian Islands. Later, you’ll find yourself in a mountain cleft gazing at the Byodo-In Temple. This remarkable structure commemorates the 100-year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants. Moving on, we’ll visit Waimea Falls and the surrounding valley. These places are rich with history, spirituality and island traditions. Your E Noa guide will take you through the botanical gardens of this vast and tranquil setting.
