Podcasting supports these State Standards:
LS-R1. Tell or retell a personal experience or creative story in a logical sequence
LS-R4. Respond to stories, poems and nonfiction
LS-R5. Participate in group discussions
LS-F1. Use effective vocabulary and logical organization to relate or summarize ideas, events and other information
LS-F3. Prepare and deliver information by generating topics; identifying the audience; and organizing ideas, facts or opinions for a variety of speaking purposes such as giving directions, relating personal experiences, telling a story or presenting a report
LS-E1. Prepare and deliver an organized speech and effectively convey the message through verbal communications with a specific audience
LS-E2. Prepare and deliver an oral report in a content area and effectively convey theinformation through verbal communications with a specific audience
I know you are probably anxious to press record and get your voice on the net. But a little planning will help you stay focused.
In the end you will produce a better podcast that will attract and keep more listeners. This will also make your job as a podcaster a lot easier.

•How long will your podcast be?•3 minutes, 5 minutes, more?
•How often will you do this?•Daily, weekly, monthly?
•Will it be only talking or will you play music as well?
You will certainly change your mind as time goes on. You will add things and drop things. Eventually you will find what works well for your classroom.

The Audacity Work Area Window
With all tools showing
Skip to Start - moves the cursor to time 0. If you press Play at this point, you project will play from the beginning.
Play - starts playing audio at the cursor position. If some audio is selected, only the selection is played.
Loop - if you hold down the Shift key, the Play button changes to a Loop button, which lets you keep playing the selection over and over again.
Record - starts recording audio at the project sample rate (the sample rate in the lower-left corner of the window). The new track will begin at the current cursor position, so click the "Skip to Start" button first if you want the track to begin at time 0.
Pause - temporarily stops playback or recording until you press pause again.
Stop - stops recording or playing. You must do this before applying effects, saving or exporting.
Skip to End - moves the cursor to the end of the last track.
The Audacity Control Buttons
Make sure your headset is connected and selected as the
input device
Click on the Record button and start talking into the microphone
Selection tool - for selecting the range of audio you want to edit or listen to.
Envelope tool - for changing the volume over time.
Draw tool - for modifying individual samples.
Zoom tool - for zooming in and out.
Timeshift tool - for sliding tracks left or right.
Multi tool - lets you access all of these tools at once depending on the location of the mouse and the keys you are holding down.
The Audacity Editing Tools
Usually you need to trim off “dead air” which you don’t want for your audio file
•Use the Select tool and drag across just the audio you need.•Go to Edit and choose Trim
You can save your files as an MP3 if you have the free LAME MP3 encoder software
downloaded

Do not choose “Save Project” or “Save Project As”
use “Export” or “Export Selection”

E-mail the file to me and I will put it in with your school’s web files and then I will send you the URL so you can put it into the Google Gadget MP3 player
