Our group decided that our audience for the horror trailer should be between the ages of 16-34 year olds. This would be because it allows us to expand on our ideas for example we would be able to do jump scares, also some of our scenes may be frightening for the younger viewers. We didn’t particularly want to go over the age of 34 as most adults tend to watch rom-coms and family films as they are in their mid 30’s. Films like scary movie and Saw have offered something different as they focus less on the suspense of the chase and more on the suffering of the victim. Horror films feature plenty of gore and violence and despite the extreme gore they attract big crowds at the cinemas to watch the latest releases of horror films. For this trailer we are creating there won’t be a specific gender as we believe that most teenage girls and boys and adults watch horror movies during their spare time as they love the thrill and jump scares.

The groups which appeal to horror films are typically the unemployed as horror movies are typically produced on a smaller budget and are cheaper in general for the viewer. The horror genre will appeal to the working class such as plumbers and builders. However the horror genre will appeal to the students as our horror trailer will be targeted to them as our audience research would be filled out by the students as they are roughly around the similar age range of our group.

For our audience research we plan to carry out a questionnaire/survey which will be open and closed questions as this would help us gain knowledge of what our audience are expecting our horror trailer to be like. We would offer the questionnaire/survey to both students and teachers as the school we go to has both audience types, this is a benefit as we would be able to get our feedback from 16-34 year olds. We also have another audience research method, this would be to gather a bunch of students together to

watch some short clips of horror trailers to then tell us what they thought about them, which ones they prefer and why. This would help us by them telling us what we could include in our horror trailer as well as showing us what interests them. Another idea would be similar but this would be to gather the students together to form a focus group, this would allow us to get ideas and information from the students in more detail rather than just watching a few clips and getting them to jot down some answers/ideas.
