The audience demographic for the Thriller genre.

Page 2: Audience

Generalised analysis of the audiences for Thrillers.

Thrillers are usually rated between the age range of 15-18+. Many thrillers are particularly graphic and are rated 18 due to

this content. They tend to include explicit content which would be unsuitable for a younger audience

Gender isn’t typically specific when it comes to gender, however there is a connotation that it is predominantly males who like thrillers, as stereotypically women may be deemed to fear the Thriller genre.

My Target audience.

My film is going to be of a rating 15. This is because it will include violence; however it will not go into in depth detail and gore of this violence: e.g. show the violence in strong detail with the use of blood etc.

My film is using two characters of the age 18, this I feel will make the film relatable to this 15+ rating trailer. By using characters of a similar age range to my audience should theoretically allow the audience to connect with my characters.

Age 15-50The BBFC rating for this film is a 15 therefore the audience should not be under this age. The use of the word Taken allows the film to relate to the younger side of the audience as well as the older generation as it is not dictated in a way of maturity. The title gives away the idea that Liam Neeson’s character has had something taken away from him. The Image on the cover shows Neeson holding a gun, there is also scattered fires and a lot of smoke surrounding the areas – this suggests the violence within the film.Gender: mainly Male.I have suggested that it is mainly a male audience due to the fact that Neeson is the only character who is shown on the poster and he is of the male gender; however from watching the film I understand that he has a daughter and a wife which play a large part in the film which would infer that there would be a large basis of females being apart of the audience. However back to my point of the film mainly having a male audience; the film includes high levels of violence and this would be stereotypically more of a male trait to watch a film with such violence.

AttitudesThe film poster shows that there is violence throughout the film which means there would be strong attitudes within the film, as the poster does not give much away you are unable to determine what these attitudes are; however as I have watched it the main attitude is the relationship between a Father and his Daughter and how strong this bond can be. This therefore shows that a Father would be willing to kill people in order to protect his daughter – I have got this idea from the use of the prop of a gun in the film poster.

Personal TraitsThe suggestion of the violence and the use of a gun on the film poster suggests that Neeson’s character has knowledge around guns and has used one before which further suggests he may be apart of the police or special intelligence. This may allow people of the same work force to relate to the character and understand why he is doing what he is doing for his daughter.

Age 15-30The BBFC rating for SALT is a 15 therefore no one below this age is legally allowed to purchase or view this film in an institution.Gender: FemaleThe gender for this particular film I feel would be mainly female due to the iconic image of Angelina Jolie on the front cover. There is no suggestion of another gender through the film poster. The beautiful image may be enough to persuade women to watch the film as they aspire to look/be like Jolie. However this image male also attract male attention as she is of beauty and this would be a reason for males to watch the film. The look in Jolie’s eyes shows that she is a determined female, the image portrays her as powerful.

Attitudes:

The photo suggests that women can be powerful and independent which is a strong attitude to put across as there is known issues with woman equality in the past, so this image works as an empowerment towards women.

Personal Traits:

The personal traits accentuated in this piece include beauty that women acquire and the mystery that some women hold. It suggests independence as I have stated before. Overall a really positive attribution towards women as people.
