Audience Research Questionnaire

As a group we decided that we were going to use this question to find out the gender of the people who are interested in watching our opening sequence analysis. From this we have learnt that throughout our area the gender who is most interested in the concept of physiological thriller are males, although there is not a large difference. Therefore we have decided to aim our opening sequence at both genders.

The results from this question on our questionnaire show our target audience is clearly 16-20 year olds, although a small percentage are 21-25. The minimum age being 16 allows us to include a wider variety of content in our scenes as under the British board of film classification films aimed at 15 and overs have less restrictions than a 12a and 12 rated films. Though we can now include scenes featuring strong violence, we as a group decided this is not something we see necessary to our opening sequence.

We chose this question as feel it is important to meet audience expectations on what a psychological thrillers should include. Here we learnt that the main themes people believe a thriller should include are; suspense, a comical aspect, death and a life threatening plot line. Following our results we as a group have decided to keep some of these themes and co-operate ones such as suspense into our thriller, as now we can see that this is what the audience expects from our film.

This question was chosen so that we could have an idea of whether we have the right idea of an physiological thriller. Here we were very pleased that all people who responded to our questionnaire believes it physiological thriller genre is coming across clearly from our storyboards. Due to getting these results as a group we have decided to carry on our opening sequence as we have planned it from the storyboards, just keeping a look back on the improvements people have set.

This question we chose as a group to link with the question before, to be able to be given any improvements if any people believed that our storyboards didn’t really make it clear the genre we are aiming towards, being a physiological thriller. The response we got to this question was overall very positives which showed us which parts of our storyboards were the strongest.
