Audience Research There is also a older audience which ranges between 30-60 as this is the generation that has grown up with the Film Noir genre. The secondary audience for Film Noir is wide as it can range from the younger generations such as 18-29 years olds who are trying to see what the era was like back then and are fans of the genre. Also the game LA Noire could be the reason why the younger generations are now fans of film noir. On average a neo-noir film makes around $74.1. The classification on a film noir ranges between 15 and 18 because of the contents of the film. If it is a fifteen then no one under the age of fifteen can see the film unless they are with an adult. No themes are prohibited with a fifteen as long as they are suitable for a fifteen year old to view. If it is a fifteen then it could include any of these: 1. Strong violence Though the violence would be strong it would not dwell on the infliction, of pain or injury and the goriest images would not be acceptable. 2. Frequent strong language there is no upper limit on the amount of strong language that could be used in a fifteen film and occasionally there might be stronger and more offensive terms. 3. Portrayals of sexual activity 4. Strong verbal references to sex 5. Sexual/nudity There maybe some sex and nudity on the screen but no graphic or strong detail would be allowed. 6. Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence there would be references to sexual violence in a detailed verbal way but any visual sexual violence would have to be discreet and have strong justification. 7. Discriminatory language or behavior though discriminatory language is used it would not endorse this type of behavior. 8. Drug taking it would show that drugs would be taken but it would not encourage or promote the misuse of drugs. Any misuse of easily accessible drugs would not be allowed. 9. Dangerous behavior that could be copied - any dangerous behavior would not dwell on specific details that could be copied.

If it is a fifteen then it could include any of these:

1. Strong violence – Though the violence would be strong it would not dwell on the infliction, of pain or injury and the goriest images would not be acceptable.

2. Frequent strong language – there is no upper limit on the amount of strong language that could be used in a fifteen film and occasionally there might be stronger and more offensive terms.

3. Portrayals of sexual activity

4. Strong verbal references to sex

5. Sexual/nudity – There maybe some sex and nudity on the screen but no graphic or strong detail would be allowed.

6. Brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence – there would be references to sexual violence in a detailed verbal way but any visual sexual violence would have to be discreet and have strong justification.

7. Discriminatory language or behavior – though discriminatory language is used it would not endorse this type of behavior.

8. Drug taking – it would show that drugs would be taken but it would not encourage or promote the misuse of drugs. Any misuse of easily accessible drugs would not be allowed.

9. Dangerous behavior that could be copied - any dangerous behavior would not dwell on specific details that could be copied.

If the film or DVD has an 18 classification then it is only suitable for 18 years and over, the content is generally not suitable for a younger audience. There are no limits on the content of an 18. Adults are allowed to pick their own entertainment as long as it is within the law and so it is possible that there could be some offensive content. An 18 film may include any of the following:

1. Very strong violence. – The violence in an 18 cane be very strong and would be very detailed. The camera may also swell on the pain or injury

2. Frequent strong language and use of very strong language – there is no limit on the number of uses of strong language and it could be used for anything from being aggressive to being directed.

3. Strong portrayals of sexual activity – There can be strong and detailed portrayals of sex (including full nudity). Very strong, crude and explicit sex references are permitted.

4. Scenes of sexual violence – 18s could have scenes of strong sexual violence.

5. Strong horror – the strongest horrors are passed as an 18 film. They would contain strong horror, gore or sustained threat/menace. This would exceed the boundaries of a 15 film.

6. Strong blood and gore – There would be strong blood and gore with specific details which would be stronger than a 15 classification.

7. Real sex (in some circumstances) – An 18 film/DVD may include depictions of real sex if it is justifiable

8. Discriminatory language and behavior – there could be racist, homophobic or other discriminatory terms used and the film would explore any themes relating to it. Though it must not be in any breach of legislation relevant to it. Discriminatory themes could be the main focus of an 18 and main characters could engage in this kind of behavior.
