BBFC A18 contents

Very strong violence frequent strong language (eg 'f***') and/or very strong language (eg ‘c***’) strong portrayals of sexual activity scenes of sexual violence strong horror strong blood and gore real sex (in some circumstances) discriminatory language and behavior

The classic Film Noir genre would be aimed at an older audience simply because the original Film Noir was big in the 1950's. However nowadays, the main target audience is late teens/young adult due to content such as violence, language and sex and drug references. As result of this, most Film Noir genre films are given an 18 certificate as you can see in the example of the L.A Confidential film poster. In addition to this, the target audience is more likely to be male than female because of the amount of violence included in these genre films.

Our film will contain the age rating 15; this will be used as the film will contain strong violence, frequent language and drug taking. The reason we have not picked 18 is because this high rating will cut of a broader audience, however the 18 rating could appeal underage viewers who see it as edgy content, the 15 certificate would still keep to the noir conventions just not as potent. The results for our

questionnaire will be placed as a part of this audience research. (see below)

B

From these results we can see that a chase scene followed by an interrogation would be most popular, these results will definitely influence our production.

The results show that “abandoned building “ was seen as the most popular ‘interesting location’. This will be incorporated into our sequence in order to appeal to the widest audience.

Detectives will be used in our sequence, however as we cannot get an actress it is impossible to incorporate the Femme fatale role

Our age range with the maximum votes is 16-18; however we have diverted from this information and picked the certificate 15, we have done this because the content will fit it better and may get a younger audience interested in the genre.

The music we have intended to use are mostly brass (saxophone) and piano. We will try our hardest not to use Garage Band- the loops are to over used and will not be a high quality.

From this research our main narrative theme will contain all of these aspects in some respect- kidnapping, the detective kidnaps the gangster. Mystery, what has driven the detective to come to this.
