Why using Digital Audio in MFL?
• Range of voices/accents (use of FLAs)• Quality/ reliability.• Easier to store evidence from
students.• Can be portable.• Students can listen to their recorded
voice (self-assessment)• More discreet peer assessment with
headsets.
Why using Digital Audio in MFL?• Range of voices/accents• Quality/ reliability• Easier to store evidence from
students
How can we use Digital Audio in MFL?
• By adding sound to turn teacher ppt into « speaking Powerpoints »
• By encouraging students to design their own « speaking Powerpoints » to practise new words and for revision purposes.
• By setting listening and speaking homework (can be managed by email and through a VLE)
Why using Digital Audio in MFL?• Range of voices/accents• Quality/ reliability• Easier to store evidence from
students
Tools we use
• Recording function in Powerpoint• Audacity + headsets.• Digital recorders/ Easi-speak
microphones.• Mobile phones (+bluetooth)• Mp3/ ipods• Text to speech software: • Voki/ Odiogo (for English)
Why audio not video?
• When concentrating on pronunciation, using videos can be distracting.
• Audio recording is less intrusive.• Confidence issues when speaking the foreign
language (added pressure with video) • Audio can be the first training step for
colleagues reluctant to use new technologies.
