4. For the beginner, chose a simple piece with little detail See the following examples and notice the detail The more detail in the wood, the more time and work it will take to strip the piece and refinish it.

5. This piece is a beautiful antique and most likely made from walnut wood. It has beautiful detail and might be fairly cheap if found at a yard sale. Beware. It may seem like a simple piece but to the beginner, this piece could be overwhelming due to the detail. Special tools are needed to get into the tiny spaces of the beveled or rounded parts of the wood. For the beginner, this project may be a bit much to take on at first

6. This walnut corner shelf is simple but a good piece to start out with to see if you have the time and energy to dedicate to refinishing furniture. Small pieces like this cost just a few dollars and the supplies needed to refinish it cost less than $15. Edges are smooth and flat making it easy to sand by hand Also, dont chose painted wood if you are not experienced.
