ANATOMY OF A SPEAKER
As the electrical current powers the speaker, it changes the polarity of the voice coil. The voice coil is wrapped around one of two magnets. This shift in polarity causes the two magnets
within the speaker to vibrate, moving the diaphragm of the speaker. This vibration generates sound waves. The frequency of the wave is determined by the movement of the voice coil.
LOUDSPEAKERS
MATERIAL LIST- a styrofoam plate- two neo magnets- 30 - 32 copper enamel wire*- electrical tape- stereo audio plug
* WARNING - other wire could cause a short
1. Take the styrofoam plate and one of the magnets. With this magnet, wrap along the outside with two strips of paper (with the intention of removing the innermost piece of paper later)
2. Glue magnet to the center of the plate.
3. Wrap around the magnet about fifty times. Once this is done, remove the inner wrapping of paper. This creates a gap between the magnet and the coil.
4. Take two thick, sturdy pieces of paper and fold them in this shape /\/\
5. Glue the cards to the plate on the same side as the magnet. Once this is done, put glue on all three parts and affix it to a sturdy surface. (the sturdy cards must be completely glued down)
6. Take the copper wire and remove the enamel from the end where it will connect to the audio plug. Connect it to the center connector in the audio plug. If it is stereo, connect to the center and one of the side contacts.
7. Do tests, be sure that the glue is dry, listen to music that doesn’t suck.
Michel Chion, French sound theorist, seems to vehemently believe so. And behind him are his followers, the Chionites. Throughout human history, our doomsday has been predicted incorrectly time and time again, and this time that day rests upon November the twenty-ninth, two-thousand and eleven, at eight p.m.
And what, praytell, is the benefit of knowing when the demise is nigh? With great anticipation, perhaps the world needs to conclude. Or perhaps it is concluding at every moment. The Chionites aren’t like the pastime prophets, vicariously living through threats of the end, but rather are willing to give a benefit of a doubt that the end perhaps is already here as long as we listen.
