ALI Audit Guidelines: Spring 2018

Introduction: Auditing as an ALI Fellow Course audits are a highly valued and valuable part of the Advanced Leadership Fellowship and represent

the individualized part of the program in which ALI Fellows pursue knowledge relevant to their project

domains. Fellows and Partners may audit across the University’s professional schools and Harvard

Faculty of Arts and Sciences. (Course audits are currently not available in the Harvard Extension School,

first year or required MBA or Medical School courses, or Executive Education programs.)

With faculty approval, ALI Fellows may audit up to two courses per semester and ALI Partners may audit

up to one course per semester.

Please Note: Dates and links are subject to change. Any updates will be shared with you via your

Audit Request Template

For your reference and convenience, we have included a sample audit request template which you

may use to contact faculty members. We recommend that you contact professors from your

Harvard email account.

Dear Professor __________:

My name is __________, and I am a 2018 Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow. The goal of the

Advanced Leadership Fellowship is to prepare experienced leaders to transition from their primary income-earning

years to community and public service for their next years of life. The Fellowship is designed to enhance and

leverage the skills of already-accomplished leaders for significant impact on pressing social problems, including

those that affect health and welfare, children and the environment. The Faculty members comprising this initiative

are drawn from the five professional schools of Business, Law, Health, Government and Education, more

information here: https://advancedleadership.harvard.edu/faculty

As an ALI Fellow, I plan to expand my knowledge base by auditing courses, participating in the Advanced

Leadership core curriculum, and by engaging students in research as I explore pathways to be an effective leader.

ALI has secured audit permissions from all of the major schools at Harvard, including the Insert name of School,

i.e. Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

I am interested in taking your __________ course and would need your permission as faculty instructor to do so. I

believe I would benefit greatly from your teaching as I seek to broaden my understanding of social sector

leadership challenges to meet my goals of the Fellowship year and beyond. Further, I believe my experience in

__________ would be an asset to classroom discussion.

Thank you for considering me for enrollment in your class.

Best,

__________
