CANADA’S CHOICEFOR THE FABRICATING & WELDING INDUSTRY

In late 2015 Canadian Metalworking made a commit-ment to fabricating shops and advertisers to bring them more coverage of their businesses and the chal-lenges they face day to day and month to month. We did so with the launch of our new flipbook concept and the Canadian Fabricating & Welding name.
Since that time we have travelled from coast to coast visiting job shops and large manufacturers that are ad-justing in unique ways to the challenges that a very competitive market brings. We have chronicled the successful lean strategies of transportation companies; design change processes brought about by the adop-tion of laser cutting technologies at agricultural fabrica-tors; automotive lightweighting advancements cham-pioned in Canadian universities, colleges, and industry; and the adoption of electric press brake technology in a job shop for more rapid production throughput.
Technical articles in the magazine have covered a broad range of topics: thin and thick material bending practices, aluminum GTAW, hand tool ergonomics les-sons, abrasive safety, and saw material handling. We have also looked at the business management chal-lenges involved in maintaining a welding operation and work process management.
Through our involvement in FABTECH®, MMP Expo tabletop shows in smaller markets, and CanWeld Expo, we are everywhere that connections are being made in the Canadian fabricating and welding industry.
With the Canadian dollar at a reasonable level, shops that are making their own product in Canada are
finding U.S. customers that are more receptive to these cost-effective products. Even with business spiking be-cause currency fluctuations are favouring Canadian fabricators, shops know that they can’t be complacent and hesitant to invest in new technology. They under-stand that, with labour costs as they are in Canada, making a healthy profit demands investment in the lat-est technology. Whether they invest in a small deburr-ing machine to speed up finishing processes or a fibre laser/storage tower combo to run lights-out around the clock, shops of all sizes are finding technologies that are giving them an edge over their competition.
To understand the value of an automatic layout marking machine for structural steel, a plasma cutter with advanced cutting parameters for thick plate, or laser welding automation, to name just a few of the other topics we have covered and will cover again in the future, Canadian fabricators are turning to Cana-dian Fabricating & Welding. We are committed to an-swering the questions that affect them every day, and our partnerships with others in the industry make that commitment easier to fulfill. I look forward to working with you in 2017 to make an even bigger difference within our industry.
