AUDITION MONOLOGUES Please select either an acting selection below, OR one of the vocal selections to sing. Students may memorize, or bring in the paper to read (memorized is preferred!) Students may read in an accent if they feel they can do so successfully. No roles require an accent, but if you’d like to try one, you are welcome to. Babette: French Cogsworth and Mrs Potts: British BREAK A LEG! Maurice: Oh I’ll never get this bone headed contraption to work! I was hoping to win first prize at the inventor’s fair tomorrow, but now I never will. This machine was going to start a new life for us. I supposed we’ll give it our best shot and see what happens. Beast: Who are you? I said who are you? (pause). I am the master of this castle. I do not take orders from anyone…(Pause) You should not have trespassed here. Get out and never return! Gaston: Bonjour, Belle. Off so soon? (pause). Belle, it’s about time you got your head out of those books and focus on more important things…like me. Every girl in town wants my attention, and you’re in luck because I’ve got my sights set on you. Cogsworth: I am Cogsworth, head of the household. And this is Lumiere. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable, anything at all…except one thing. Dinner. (to the others). You heard the master. She dines with him or she starves. (pause). Oh, fine. Glass of water and crust of bread…but that’s it! Mrs. Potts: Try to be patient, sir. The girl has lost her father and her freedom all in one day. These things take time. Master, you must help her to see that you are kind. You could start by making yourself more presentable. Be gentle. Shower her with compliments. But be sincere. And above all- you must control your temper! Babette: I was so scared! The master was so angry! I needed someone like you to protect me. Imagine if the girl does break the spell. We can return to our old selves. I will be beautiful again, and not made of these feathers and fluff. Achoo!!
