ABOUT THE MUSICAL

Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, features some of the greatest musical theatre hits ever written, including "Tomorrow."

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations... and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt! She finds a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Annie is the perfect family-friendly musical.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORS, MUSIC DIRECTOR, & CHOREOGRAPHER

Westerville Parks and Recreation Civic Theatre prides itself on bringing top notch theatre to the community, using residents and friends of Westerville to assemble the cast, crew and orchestra. This year, we are so proud to be celebrating 5 years of excellence with a title that is sure to please the audiences.

Annie has been a mainstay in the theatre since its release in 1977 and now, 40 years later, we are excited to bring it to our summer theatre experience.

This ensemble cast show tells a story of a little girl who is looking for love in the cold, harsh realities of a world that is not made for her, and she finds that love in the unlikeliest of places -- Oliver Warbucks.

More than the familiar tunes, Annie provides us an opportunity to tell a story with heart, compassion and truth. A show that is appropriate for all ages, races and genders, Annie is sure to go down in our book as a very special summer.

While the show is certainly focused on a little girl and her friends in the orphanage, there are many parts and places for an ensemble to shine. What makes Westerville Parks and Recreation Civic Theatre unique is our dedication and commitment to telling a story with people of all ages, from all walks of life. We hope you and your family will join us, for what is sure to be a wonderful time.

For the audition, we ask that you come ready to dance and sing a song that you are confident and comfortable with. Young singers should use their most “pure tone” voice in auditions. We’ll see you there!
